some good movement forming, but a lot of it becomes too fast and distracting

Good idea overall, try to rely less on the automated splines and work more on your pose-to-pose. Good luck.
Monica Stringer:
3 big things to fix. The kid 'gliding' into the room (you don't need to animated walking, but you could have alluded to it with up and down motions), the parent spinning perfectly around like there on a rotating table (again, allude to steps being made, make the torso move first etc), and the kids complete lack of animation after the mother starts talking, you don't have to go nuts with the kid as most attention with be on the mother, but subtle movements and expressions can go a long way.
