You really nailed the character.

With such long tails it would be best if you made them a little more expressive. The blue one just keeps moving it around in the same rhythm, instead you could animate it in a way that expresses more his feelings.

Weird lighting. I'd almost rather see the GL version if you can't get the lighting right. Not half bad though.

The movement in the background at the end distracts from the character

Is the squirrel wagging its tail, or is the tail being blown by strong wind? It seems unnatural and very un-squirrel-like. Also the second shot reveals the "problem" of the story, but the huge apple in the forefront and the old squirrel take up so much screenspace that I don't know what to focus on.
