[New Format] MC Week 7 - 180 Turn - Start 7.19

What to do: animate a character going from one side and turning 180 degrees and facing the other direction. Special emphasis should be put on weight shifting, especially in the hips.
Process: Animate as much as you can in a 24 hour period of your choosing
Note: There is no ending date starting with this challenge.

So we'll see how this new format works out, starting with the weight shift.

Re: [New Format] MC Week 7 - 180 Turn - Start 7.19

For the first time I animated a turn, so I used my own reference.
this was harder than I thought. it took about 4 hours.

Here's as far as I got today on this.  It's mostly just feet.

It is hard.  I think turning is harder than walking.

An element I think is missing between the reference and the CG is the way the body is smoothly rocking from one foot plant on to the next.  In the ref the body has a pendulum-like quality to its motion.

It is like walking in that there should/can be a squash pose right after each foot plant, which can be seen in your ref.

(I have cleverly bypassed that issue by omitting the body in my animation  wink  )

Re: [New Format] MC Week 7 - 180 Turn - Start 7.19

I hope this classes as a turn, I wanted to do something with a bit more character and story. This is what I have so far. I've never really tackled turns before so this is a new one for me smile

Some further exploration of the concept, not a finished turn yet.

I like it, although I think the ball needs an anticipation before it zooms off.

Hey robcat,

Thanks for that. I've just added some anticipation to the ball and it's looking much better on the ball side of things tongue I'm loving your 2D turn, great motion so far!

Looking forward to seeing more of your turn when you've got more poses in there Tom smile

Worked a bit more on mine today. Added some inbetweens and cleaned the arcs up on the hips and arms.

For the moment, I didn't work on the arms. I'm not sure about the 'weight shift', is it right ?

Re: [New Format] MC Week 7 - 180 Turn - Start 7.19

I like it kiopaa smile The hips look good to me but the timing looks a bit floaty towards then end when they ease into the normal standing position. I think you need more going on with the spine/body on a whole when he's shifting weight though.

It's been about 18 hours. I did the whole walking thing all over again, so here it is:

Careful with his hands at the end, Tom.  They seem to stick in mid air and then follow the body to the ground.  smile
