Umm, okay? It'll take a lot to compete with AM honestly.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
a 2d online school based off the same ideas as AM would be very nice. or one that has part cg and part 2d

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
I think as always it will come down to the quality of the education and the cost. But the fact is that Am has the reputation and will control the market of online animation teaching for the time being.

hopefully a little friendly competition will lower the costs of both animation schools. The students win. Yay!

From what you get out of AM though... the current deal just seems too good. Maybe I'm a little naive though, I've always been smart with my money but never really had to hunker down for years to earn it. So my perspective might be off. But in comparison with any University or Arts program - can't really complain ![]()

I'm just wondering how it can even compare to AM without being a complete ripoff of the whole system.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
First: I think AM is a great school. I learned a lot from them.
Jason Ryan was one of the early mentors at Animation Mentor, and they had to tell him to slow down because he was interacting and helping his students way more then the other mentors. Jason's style is very 2D based and very fast, and feels pretty different then the AM approach. One of the best animator's I know went through AM but didn't feel confident and at ease until he had gone through Jason Ryan's classes.
Different people learn in different ways, different approaches work better for different people. Jason has already proven himself to be super passionate about animation and sharing what he knows (and he knows a lot) AM has a large variety of mentors working on different kinds of films which will be hard to match, but they definitely heavily emphasize one approach (which can be very effective, if it works for you).
I'd be surprised if the price changes for either of these schools, but they are still way cheaper and faster then anything else out there (like CalArts or Ringling or Sheridan)
(And for the record I have only bought 2 single webinar's from Jason Ryan, haven't done the whole course.)

I think it's great. I'm a big fan of Jason's work as an animator and a teacher. He's great at both. He's clearly put a lot of thought into making his school the best it can be. Based on what I've heard from him I think he's approaching it the right way. I'm positive that any student who gets involved with his new school will come away far better for the experience. And the competition is good. AM is a fine program, but it's not perfect or the be-all end-all of animation training.

Talking about inspired teachers i'd just like to say i've found a number of your tutorials incredibly useful and enlightening over my short time in animation, so thank you Mr Lango, thank you indeed.
I say fair play and good luck to Ianimate, AM seem to be doing a grand job based on some of the work coming from their direction, but there's always more than one way to approach something, and competition can never hurt.

I think Jason Ryan had all the experience (20 years) to compete with AM, I don't know if i'm allowed to talk about the school itself, as everything is not clear yet but sooner the site will be done..but from what I heard...you have to cheer up..
...Anyway all the respect to AM, I'm a big fan of this school and i hoped so many times to enroll but sadly the cost was high...I think it will be a friendly competition...

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
Wanted to join AM myself but couldn't for the cost factor. love Jason Ryan. So now I have 2 choices and probably the cost ll come down for both of AM and Ianimate. And thats enough good news for me to make me happy for a whole month. All the good wishes to Mr. Ryan. And looking forward to a friendly competition.
p.s. hope Jason starts a club like 11 Second or may be co-sponsor the 11 Second Club.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
iAnimate is going to be a school to compete with AM. I think AM is awesome and it has a lot to give and they have a great track record in the 4-5 years they have been open. Just like anything competition is needed to bring out the best for the consumers, and this is only going to be a great thing for any student wanting to get into the industry. Jason is the greatest guy, and so helpful... he has so much passion for animation its amazing! He excites me every time he has a webinar. Like alonso said I heard Jason was having trouble being a mentor at AM because of his passion for teaching go further then any other mentor. He was helping out so much that the other mentors couldn't keep up and it was making them look bad because all the students wanted Jason as there mentor! I'm a huge fan of Jason as a person/animator/mentor and without a doubt this will be a great school that will prepare anyone for the industry they want to be in!! Go Jason, and Go iAnimate!!!!

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
I can't wait for this site to officially launch! I want more info!!!
It'd be nice if industry professionals who have already done other schooling can test into the program instead of having to start with the first class like with AM. We'll see!

Everyone harps on about how great AM is but I think that’s because those that weren't happy with the school are too afraid to speak out about it since they might get labeled a trouble causer and some how this could effect there opportunities in the industry.
AM has probably changed a lot since my time there but there was many an occasion when I got a critique I was left thinking "is that it?" Don't be misled by the lengthy critiques provided to winners of the 11 Second Club. There not usually that in-depth or thorough.
Anyway, I guess that’s just the realities of running such a program. Not every student can get a 20-30 minute critique because mentors have lives too and I’m sure some are much more passionate about teaching than others and genuinely love helping students even if it means sacrificing some of there own time e.g. the likes of Jason Ryan, whilst some see it as more of a means to moonlight and earn an extra income.
And for the record, I thought AM was an exceptional school and a great way to learn animation (but if your a complete beginner don't expect to end up with feature film quality animation) if you can't afford the experience of a real school or arn't lucky enogh to have access to an actual mentor (like Shane Kelly did) to learn all the intricate ins & outs of animation.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw
Great post Shopkeeper! You get out of the school what energy you put in. I think iAnimate will be just like Animation Mentor, different students will get everything they want and need out of iAnimate that they wouldn't get out of AM and others will get stuff out of AM. To say that iAnimate can't compete is ridiculous, because Jason knows how AM was ran (and is will probably be remembered as one of the best mentors) and desires iA it to be better, so he is going to do all he can to teach animation. September is rolling around quickly and will bring in another school that teaches character animation at the highest level!
