Attention YouTube users - How to get better "replay" performance

Hi Everybody,

I've noticed that with a lot of the YouTube links that get embedded into the WIP forum, the movie plays once and then shrinks to a smaller version, while the lower third of the screen is filled with related videos.   This can make replaying the current video difficult or even non-responsive.   Perhaps some of you have found this as well, and have been frustrated by the difficulty in replaying the videos in their full size.

Happily, there is a solution.   smile

When you embed your YouTube url, you are given a string of text that looks like the following:

<object width="425" height="355">
<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YOUTUBE-VIDEO&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param>
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YOUTUBE-VIDEO&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

See the part of that code that says "rel=1"?   Notice that it's in there twice.    Change each of them to say rel=0 and the video should remain in its actual size, ready to be replayed easily.

I hope this helps!

I am so glad you mentioned this. Yes, it drives me nuts.

Thanks for the fix Eric. What a mind saver.

Re: Attention YouTube users - How to get better "replay" performance

I just typed the link address to the You Tube page to make it appear in the WIP forum. I didn't use the embed string as it didn't work in the preview and the instructions on making a post said to just use the url. I'll check the embed code out on the next upload.

Ah, thanks for that, Franko.   I didn't know how the YouTube stuff got posted in the first place... could have to do with how the url gets parsed.   Perhaps we can get it on Mark's radar when he has a spare moment.  (I think things have been pretty tight for him lately)
