Re: Animation project-to all the animators
I think the idea of heaven being turned into a movie theatre, and God being a spectator is what he is referring to. I kinda like the fantasy elements and humor the idea provides, and thought it gives a lot of artistic and creative freedom to everyone, and we could put the era of where God was at in watching movies in the Renaissance, thus placing the main human character there, so we could give him a Davinci look, and give the Devil a more modern futuristic look. But best not offend people I guess.
Im trying to play around with some new story ideas based on the definition of the term renaissance man,
"A person who is well educated or who excels in a wide variety of subjects or fields. a man can do all things if he will
Commonly thought of as the typical renassaince man, is Leonardo DaVinci, or Michelangelo, people considered to be way ahead of there time, or behind if you will. But a story around someone who is perhaps even more gifted than these two, and so ahead of his time, that he is looked down upon may be more interesting. Or even the opposite, someone who was nowhere near as talented but heralded as a genius.

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
Perhaps we could make a humorous story out of the famous painters you mentioned. For example, we can play around with Davinci painting the Mona Lisa in some humorous way or something. Or Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel.
Did you know when he painted the chapel, he had to be up super close to the roof, laying on his back while painting? There's all kinds of humorous stories waiting to come out of that.
Just some thoughts.

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
ok, so I've been trying to think of a new story without spiritual overtones that would be a bit more friendly to a group project. The renaissance era is a little tricky to develop a story around that won't be incredibly boring and leave little room for animation. I spent a while trying to think how to make Michelangelo painting the sistene chapel on his back could be interesting to animate, and just couldn't see it, or DaVinci painting the Mona Lisa.
So here is my new idea.
I've titled this story idea "Keeping up with the Medici's." After doing a little research I discovered that the Medici family asides from being the most influential and powerful family of this era, had commissioned many amazing works from michelangelo and davinci. So my story is of Davinci and Michelangelo in essence battling eachother to be the favourite artist of the Medici family. The Medici family would consist of 5 people, that are completely open to interpretation and the designs really could define them. I was thinking the mother and father, the son and daughter, and right down to the butler or we could throw in a baby even, which I know makes for 7 characters:S but we could trash the butler or the baby and even scrape it down to 5, but when envisioning stuff in my head it seems to add a more funny element. The artists in there efforts to please every single member of the family are creating some of the most amazing pieces of art, yet destroying the others work, be it the statue of David, or the Mona Lisa or whatever you want to chose from the long list of amazing works they have produced.
I think a cartoony(Looney Tunesesque) feel would work pretty well for this idea, and I think it allows a lot of room for some really interesting designs for the family. Stylistically for the animation this idea reminds me a little of "A Gentlemans Duel" which if you haven't seen check it out, as it did a good job of creating some cool characters from the era.
Let me know of your thoughts on this story idea, I can always come up with some more ideas, and more minds working on an idea always makes things more interesting. I would like to commit to an idea pretty soon though for this project ![]()

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
o wooow i full of nice ideas:)!!
I really like Matthew!!Exciting to start!!
So, everytime davinci and michelangelo show something to the medici, something really amazing and impressive, they are happy or like disappointed?![]()
haha jus a little thin in my mind in this moment....when Michelangelo maybe show the David(could be covered with one big cloth)and when michelangelo geto out the big cloth for show the david, all proud, the david is full of writing, murales(like a modern time hehe) so pink, red things like davinci rules or something else...
ok i start to create some sketchs about the characters;)!!! I really like the "A Gentlement Duel"
here for who never seen:
and i think this style could be perfect;)!!! i ll try to stay in this look.
So everyone want try to create a design now is the time;)

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
cool, glad you guys are liking the ideas.
Some really funny leonardo pics, really like that we got some people who are putting some work together here!
Haha, that was exactly what I was thinking in terms of the art being ruined, DaVinci rules on the david haha, or some moustaches painted on the mona lisa, or even Michelangelo taking the Mona Lisa and putting DaVincis head through it. It definitely is a story with more humor potential then the other one.
Just curios to see which one is the one we are deciding to go ahead with on. Obviously they both need a lot of work, but once I know which Idea to devote my energies to I can get a concrete story flushed out pretty quick and start working on some animatics.
My thinking is that the first story idea I past would suit best the idea of a movie trailer, where we would elude to a much bigger story and can introduce all the characters, establish the conflict, throw some drama in, and some humor, and be done with it.
The second story idea I past, would be best to be played out like a short film, or a looney toons skit. Have a clear beginning, middle and end. Im very cool with going ahead on either of these ideas.

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
One more quick thought here. Would be nice if we could all agree on a means of sharing our work, just so we all aren't flipping through pages of conversation here to find what we are looking for, as I imagine this thread can get up to page 448 pretty fast with people submitting pics, and links, and videos. I know the facebook group I set up we can submit videos and pics, and have conversatiosn through, and we can be a little more organized that way. If people don't like the idea of that, I don't know if someone wants to take the work to set up a devoted site, like they have going for the Devils, Angels and Dating short.
If it's gonna happen we gotta be organized!!!

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
Really likin the ideas cosmicfool. For me, I'd go for the movie trailer idea.
If I was any good at character design I'd probably sketch out some ideas.

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
Hi,
I like both ideas
there are great
I agree with cosmic about keeping our works organized but
I think FACEBOOK isn't good place to keep the works and conversations there (it just my feelings, I am not a fan of facebook)
Maybe the blogspot would be beter? what do you think guys?

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
Ok.
So im confused as to which story you guys are wanting to go ahead and start working on.
Im gonna ask this way.
Option A - The movie trailer idea, which is the idea of heaven being the movie theatre. (see page 2 for my explanation of this idea)
Option B - The idea of the quarrel between DaVinci and Michelangelo to impress the Medicis.
Both are set in the Renassaince era. I think option a will have more drama and less humor and be a little more story driven. Option b, will be more character driven, with a lot more humor potential, which allow for more cartooniness(if thats a word)

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
I like facebook, cause anyone who is in our group can submit videos, and pics and type.
Which just seems easier to me, than having a blog ran by someone. Everything will have to go through one person and that would probly drive all of us crazy.
Can anyone add stuff to a blog on blogspot?

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
ok cool, thanks guys for getting back so fast. Option B it is, ill start working out the story on paper here, and submit stuff as it progresses. Then we can get over to the animatic stage asap.
I really think facebook is the way to go, so everyone can just submit what they have done with no issues. And we can be really organized with this that way. If you don't like facebook, just make a silly account people you know wont find you on for this project.

Re: Animation project-to all the animators
So im gonna start writing as much as I can out for this on good old fashioned pen and paper, Im assuming we are gonna be doing pantomime to music for this particular idea? So the faster we can get into the animatic stage the better here ![]()
Im gonna draw up some personality profiles for the characters and submit those asap, theres going to be obviously Michelangelo and DaVinci.
As far as the family goes, we have a lot of room to play with here, and i'm imagining this is where the most difficulty will lie story and design wise.
If anyone has any good musical ideas now would definitely be the time to bring that up. Preferably something classical, something italian, and something without singing.
Edit - Sweet, so i transferred stuff over to the group page on facebook, and it seems to work easily for me. I made everyone admins, so we all should have the same influence over the site. If you try to upload anything and its not working lemme know!
