Emotion Change Exercise

Hello! I just finished an animation exercise and I would love to get some critique!

https://vimeo.com/235190559

Does it look too floaty? How do I polish stuff correctly? How do I do stuff on a Pixar level? XD Thank youvery much for your time!

Re: Emotion Change Exercise

Jaqueline,

It might not seem floaty as much as it seems "snappy".  Maybe a tad too much.  When she
goes into her pose at :02 - :03 she "snaps" into it and kind of freezes.  And maybe it works
just fine for a cartoony character, but if you want to experiment with this piece some more,
try softening the moves between your poses, a bit of ease-in & ease-out... some follow
through maybe ???

If we were to consider Pixar stuff, the character movements "flow" they don't really snap
into a pose and freeze.

Hi Krios!

Thank you so much for the critique! I completely get what you are saying! I did add some overshoot but I guess it ended up being too subtle, so it does look snappy. I will definitely pay more attention to it!

Re: Emotion Change Exercise

I feel the initial "snap" is fine if you're going the cartoony route, I think it's just the transition from her shock to her bracing is quick and doesn't allow the viewers enough time to read. Try adding more holds between key poses. As Krios said before me, try experimenting with your eases to see what strengthens your animation.
