Can one animator make a 60 minute 2d movie?

Hello everybody..has anyone here attempted or made or heard of one animator making a movie 50-60 minutes within 17 months to 2 years timeframe?..similar to marvel/dc animations?..even if its not of the same qualty/fluidity..lesser frames etc..Is this possible? Also is $50000 the cheapest rate imaginable for it?

technically that can be done for free, but for one person to do it would take forever. Depending on how many characters are in it and what they're doing. There is this guy called montyoum that made a series dead fantasy. Each short takes him around 6 months i believe of like 9 characters fighting at once at times around 8 minutes long.

Thanks for answering Easy619...i think if a person takes up a project like that..and is bound to it by conract..one may lose his mind..literally. It MIGHT be possible though. Do you make 2d animations?

The time frames (and costs) vary and it's rare that an animator does all the work, but a couple examples come to mind.

Nina Paley: Sita Sings the Blues
Phil Nibbelink: Romeo and Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss
Paul Fierlinger and Sandra Fierlinger: My Dog Tulip
Bill Plympton: Cheatin'

If you intend to do it yourself, it's useful to consider certain artistic and technical choices in order finish the project. It might involve relying more on strong poses/staging/holds, camera movements, cut out or limited animation, shooting on 3s, etc.

Yes, Monty Oum was another amazing and innovative animator. He'll be missed.

id have to agree with Easy619 it is possible to do the animations for free but for one animator to do that on there own would take some serious time and dedication. Especially if your trying to make a 50-60 minute movie.

Re: Can one animator make a 60 minute 2d movie?

hello word
there is a certain series in the forbidden  realm called the stone sorceress that was being produced at 5 min per month by one animator... so 60 min can be done in a year flat.  quality might not be that of pixar, but it is better than most of the enthusiast level stuff out there.
considering that 50K per year is a good salary for an animator, your budget, therefore, would be right on too.
not sure about 2D tho... unless it is anime style simple technically.
