Polish63 August Competition
It's a little late in the game, but I thought I'd actually try and compete in one of the monthly contests... FINALLY!
Here's what I have so far, it's just the main story telling poses with a breakdown.
I'm having trouble with the constraint on the cigarette... I just finished Kenny Roy's How to Cheat book and I still don't get it haha... It's properly constrained and follows the hand, but adjusting it within the hand is a pain! any help would be great since it still early on.

Re: Polish63 August Competition
hey man for future reference, look into using the ZVparent script for dealing with constraints. At first it might seem confusing, but once you figure it out, the zv parent script makes things soooo much easier. its basically as easy as a couple clicks of the mouse and you can parent any object to your character and still animate the object freely. trust me, its worth it...it will save your life.

USE IT!!!

Re: Polish63 August Competition
I was trying to do it legit... I know a lot of studios don't have access to sweet scripts like ZVparent. I guess I'm gonna have to use it, just to get moving on the shot. Nice reel by the way.

ZVparent is a free script...why wouldn't studios have access to it?

Re: Polish63 August Competition
I read somewhere that some studios don't have a lot of these scripts and that you should know how to properly parent/constrain something.

How do you find solid acting choices for such a subtle line?! I'm understanding the foundations and principles of animation, but the acting portion is murder!

wow nice blocking man ... best way to do an acting scene is, listen to the dialog as many times as possible and try to get the feel for the what the context of the dialog is and try to act it out. And i would say you started it out really good

Re: Polish63 August Competition
Really great blocking pass. The character looks superb, looking forward to seeing what you'll add when you get into the deep acting. Is that an AM rig?

The ending is really creative, even though all he does is put it down. Nice job on the update.

Re: Polish63 August Competition
I like it so far. The story really works for me. My only suggestion is that the body (up until he takes a drag) feels locked, then as he's putting out the cig, it feels locked again.

Splined everything and offset my keys. I'm gonna start working the face.
I've only been doing this a couples hours at night for the past couple days. I pretty pumped by my speed of problem solving and workflow now. If this piece doesn't do so well, I wont be bummed WHOOT WHOOT

Re: Polish63 August Competition
I think this will look good with the facial animation added in. Few minor things that I'm sure you'd notice before submitting: Frame 193 elbow pop. Frames 207-208 the spacing on the head is a little too big, needs a bit more of an ease out. You may be looking to add this in when you get to facial, but the head may need a little movement at the beginning - like a bit of a shake or something as he's talking. Cool stuff Polish, looking grood
