HELP Basic Exercise
I am a freshman animator who needs a lot of help. I am working on this basic bouncing ball exercise and obviously there is a lot wrong with it. First off, it looks "swimmy" like is floating in air, and I have been having trouble understanding why. First I put a key on every frame, then deleted the ones I didnt need, this didnt work. I hit the spline button and then my ball became even MORE swimmy and floaty! I have no idea whether this issue is a problem with my graph editor or my keys. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. If there are any other problems with my animation please tell me everything.

It's mostly about spacing. My usual advice on bouncing balls....

Re: HELP Basic Exercise
That looks better! It seems to unexpectedly bounce much faster after the second bounce even though the bounce height is not much different.
One thing I'd say is that if you're gong to do a bouncing ball test... use the whole screen! Don't just bounce in the middle 10%. Make the first bounce higher so the decay on the later ones can be more obvious.
Timing and spacing is what this exercise is all about. It's easier to do it big than small.

Re: HELP Basic Exercise
-I see the ball stopping for no reason about 2/3 of the way down. Maybe that's Youtube doing that but it's impossible to judge. Something that short really needs to be posted in Quicktime.
-What part of "use the whole screen" do you feel is bad advice? Why only use the top half of the screen?

Re: HELP Basic Exercise
Ok ill look into putting it into quicktime, but the part about use the whole screen..I'm a bit embarrassed to say I don't know what you mean. I rendered this in perspective/front view. The only thing divining the screen is the ledge I put there, is that what you mean?

Re: HELP Basic Exercise
"Use the whole screen" is a pretty straightforward note.
Why put the ground in the middle of the screen if all the action happens above the ground? You're wasting half your screen space. Put the ground at the bottom of the screen and you will have more room for your action.

Re: HELP Basic Exercise
Put video in another form, maybe now it will be easier to see the frame by frame. Thanks rob for clarifying that, the next animation I do will use the entire screen and not half of it.
