Lost Graph Editor and Outliner
Hey, so I wonder if you guys might be able to help me with a little predicament. I have Maya 2011 installed on my laptop which, when at home I hook up to my Cintiq which acts as a second monitor where i put my graph editor and other pop up boxes when i'm working. I'm now not at home and without my cintiq but want to use Maya on my laptop, only because I normally but graph editor etc on my cintiq, they've now disappeared, presumably off screen somewhere, and i don't know how to get them back. I've tried restoring maya to default settings and reinstalling but to no avail. Any help would be really appreciated. I wanna get my precious graph editor back!

Try running this in the command line or script editor:
window -e -tlc 0 0 graphEditor1Window;

Re: Lost Graph Editor and Outliner
Awesome, thanks so much! I assume something similar works for the Outliner, too?

Re: Lost Graph Editor and Outliner
I've had that too
I believe there is an option somewhere to make maya not save the layout with the scene.
Found it: its in the preferences under interface the checkbox next to 'Windows: Remember size and position' uncheck that, save your scene as a new version, exit maya and reopen it again. Should work imo, the other option would be to go back to your work, put the graph editor on the main screen and save it there again ![]()

Yes, you can find the name of any window by putting this command in:
lsUI -windows;
The output is the name of every currently active window. It shouldn't be too hard to find whatever window you're looking for due to Autodesk's naming conventions. In the case of the outliner the code would look like this:
window -e -tlc 0 0 outlinerPanel1Window;
And Wolfor's suggestion works too ![]()

wolfor it worked! Life savers, the pair of you
I was fearing I'd be without Maya for a couple of months!

Eh, you don't even have to be a full on programmer. Just knowing basic MEL commands can save your butt from time to time ![]()
