Tom's Animation Showreel 2012!
Hey guys, here's my current showreel! I'm still working on the first and the final piece, but this is roughly how it'll all look.
Thoughts?

I like it. Some nice shots. Although the shots with the birds aren't your strongest. Maybe you should leave them out. Theyre not adding that much. Good job!

I'll get them taken out then, and I'll see if I have anything stronger to put in (unless that isn't necessary?)
The work was from an uncompleted short film from a year riddled with problems. Team issues (it was a small team, and I got the assets VERY late), motivational issues and more importantly personal problems. The story wasn't bad, but if I were to come back to it in the future I'd redo all of it.
Anyway, aside from that does anything shout out to you as bad?

Re: Tom's Animation Showreel 2012!
Hey Tom, very cool reel. I agree with Ralphy on the bird shots, but your Malcolm shots are really strong. I say take them out and keep the reel nice and short for now while you either work on some new acting shots or polish the ones you already have.
Like they always say people reviewing your reel judge you by your worst shot so I say keep polishing up the awesome ones you have! In your first shot for example Malcolm's body seems to just jump from one pose to the next, feeling almost frozen once it hits a pose. I think you could really benefit from some more apparent moving holds.

Thanks for the advice!
I'm modifying the first shot a bit, and here's the progress on it so far:
Looking better? The ending will be essentially redone, along with the lip-sync. I'll also take note of what you said about the moving holds since I agree.

I agree with wase. Also, from looking at your reel, especially the bird shots, your animation seems to lack some things like weight, overlap and natural settles. Keep polishing and improving the fundamentals. Your Malcolm shot is going well though, I like the style.

The bird shots have already been taken out in the latest version (not uploaded yet).
The animation for the film (more than just those shots) was all done in a very short time, and because of the issues I had in the year I simply couldn't focus on just the animation.
I do look back at it with disgust, but I was kept being told to put them into my reel. I've always agreed though.

I'm still really debating on the final pose, any thoughts?

Re: Tom's Animation Showreel 2012!
I like the second one better because it has more emphasis on the end.
But I might go for a smaller gesture. Keep the sudden fast movement but maybe have him more in a closed pose (which would express what he's talking about a bit more than this open pose). He's saying that he's a small poop of a man.
Just a thought.

It's looking really nice, have to agree with others regarding the bird shots, and also to add more cushioning/moving holds to your Malcolm work. What font do you use in your reel btw?

Thanks for the input dude!
I'm just experimenting at the moment, and came up with this:
It's not too exaggerated, but perhaps it works? I'm just trying to find out what works best for it.
I also edited the audio a bit to give me a bit more space to place with.

The bird shots will be taken out, and the moving holds/cushioning is next on my list (I'm just trying to get the poses sorted out first).
The font used for my logo is Joy Like Sunshine Through My Windowpane and the font used for the rest is Karmina.
Hope this helps!
Oh and thanks for the input again guys!
