Matt's WIP May 2012
Hey guys here is what i have blocked so far!
My Idea is a robber is holding up a store and the shop keeper is trying to talk to him, to make him think that he cant just do this!
I have mainly focused of getting the blocking of the shop keeper done as he is the main character speaking, but the Robber will be counting a handful of stolen money most of the time.
I hope you enjoy and please let me know what you think ![]()

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
Are you referring to the one where he says "tough" and leans over?

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
hey i like the idea..great start.
perhaps you are having him make too many similar gestures with his hand...its a little repetitive and it would be nice to see a little more variety in his gestures. i think the one on "tough" is not working for me...if you can find another way to communicate that without making the same gesture that would help break things up more.
good luck and have fun!
cheers

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
Hey thanks guys for your comments, i wanted to make him look really nervous, since he is being robbed so i went with the rapid hand movements, i acted it out multiple times trying to act as i would if i was heaps nervous and i found that i did use repetitive hand movements so I went with it. Is it bad to keep it as it is, do you think i will get a bad vote for it??

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
Hey guys here is my update for this week
The robber is still blocked for a fair bit of it but I'm most probably going to animate him using straight ahead action. I haven't done any real facial animation or lip sync as i want to get all the body movements right first!
Let me know what you all think!
Thanks again and all the best ![]()

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
OK I have gone ahead and changed it a bit, so its not just his one hand moving all the time.
Do you guys think this works better?

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
What do you tink about first breaking up that pose at the beginning. I mean guy was just robbed would he be standing calm like that like he is waiting for another customer?
Try imagining what happened moment ago while he was robbed and how he would end up, what kind of pose.
It is start of your shot but it does suggest that something happened before right?
As for his left arm, maybe you don't even need that first move all the way up to the head. You shoudn't be moving parts of the body just for the sake of moving, there is always something behind those moves. Have you tried recording your self, acting in that situation?
If not maybe it is still not too late. try acting out that part and let your self go, after couple takes you will be loose enough and let your body do what you would do without too much thinking and actual acting. That is take that would work well and could help you see what is actually happening with body and arms.
If you start changing like this you can end up with bunch of small tweaks but also spinning in circles. Try something new.
Not suggesting to scrap everything just try acting out and see how would arms go by them self.

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
Yeah i will be tending to that first pose and fixing it up.
Lol yeah i did act this whole thing out prior to animating it, I usually act it out 3 different times and either choose one acting choice that i think works or add bits from each time to make the one. But I did find that i used my hands a lot tho and kept on lifting my hands to my head just like you see here, which is why i went with it..
Im guessing that the facial animation will impact this more as he does look dead and lifeless with all the movements, at the moment so ill put up another WIP hopefully soon ![]()
Thanks heaps for your feedback!!

Re: Matt's WIP May 2012
great stuff...nice progress.
couple notes:...on "that's right, you're absolutely..." his head seems to be doing most of the work...i can see that the core controller backs up slightly on the second "absolutely"..but that looks a little stiff and linear...i would try to incorporate more subtle movement in his chest..have it rotate slightly toward the other guy when the head does so it doesn't look too much like the body is frozen and the head is moving.
..also...great ending, but try to keep them alive for the moment after the last beat...right now they freeze in the last pose.
great work. good luck and have fun!
cheers

Its very nice..I think its better if you remove things which hides the first person's hand for some time...awesome job
