Re: body mechanics-blocking
hey, it would be helpful if this was posted as a .mov file using drop box so we could frame by frame and really see the individual poses. At the moment it feels like the basic posing and timing need some work but being able to see it in more detail would really help in critting it.
Cheers

Re: body mechanics-blocking
you need to place the video into the'public' folder, and then if you right click and select 'copy public link' you should be able to paste the link here and the video will inbed itself on the site. I think that's how it works anyway, apologies if I've said something wrong ![]()

Re: body mechanics-blocking
also please add frame counter in maya "menu-display-headsupdisplay-currentframe"
and about the blocking ..
after the throw really take a look at arcs its really weard there..
and also feel the throw is too fast now ..
also look at the balance , there are some poses there espesally while he antisipates for the throw looks off balance
you should study litte bit on poseing ..
check this vid about center of gravity by Michael Cawood (which i just watched and loved)
keep up

Re: body mechanics-blocking
I agree with fakepivot the balance seems off to me on some poses (frame counter will really help us here).
ALso going by the first video, around frame 28, his back leg looks really high up and in a strange position.
Keep it up and post your progress

Re: body mechanics-blocking
I don't think your timing is too far off, it just needs a little work. I think maybe a bit more time holiding the anticipation. Most of the time I just play around with my timing until I get something I raelly like (helpfull I know!)
The thing that will really sell this is strong poses, so look at plenty of refference, then when posing it out, get up and act it out. Feel where you naturally put your weight when you stand on one foot, if possible do this in front of a mirror or film it. It will really help you out ![]()

Re: body mechanics-blocking
Hi!
I think the throw is good, but what exactly is the character doing before that? I can't quite make that out. Lift your arms and watch how you do that. Or is he supposed to loosen his joints by rolling his shoulders?

Re: body mechanics-blocking
Hi Jennifer98, it's a good start.
I agree with Wolfor about the beginning, I'm not too sure what you're going for, but it doesn't read well.
For the throw, try pushing the poses further and making them clearer :
- frame 53 : having the weight change on the right foot is a good idea, but I'd try to push that pose a bit more. Have a nicer, clearer arc on the body. And try to have the arms in a more natural position (maybe have elbows pointing down a bit more)
- frame 62 : He's off balance, he would fall in that position. Try to push the arc of the body a bit more to have a general curve. Have the hips shifted to the left of the screen or the right foot shift to the right of the screen to have a nice balance. Same with the arm position, try to have the elbows less tense?
In general, check a baseball throw on youtube by a professional baseball player and watch it frame by frame. Note the main poses and draw them on a piece of paper to undrestand the arcs and the general form. You can grab a youtube video in mov or mp4 format (in order to scrub through it frame by frame) on the keepvid website.

Re: body mechanics-blocking
I think essentially it's a very good idea making a lot of filmed references, especially in this case, since you'll get a whole lot of small little nuances you'll miss otherwise. ![]()

Re: body mechanics-blocking
definitely agree with my compadres here...
...best thing for you to do is act it out yourself over and over so you can see what your body is doing to then translate it back to the computer!
(filming yourself while doing this would be a huge help or just get some good reference...slo-motion videos too so you can really see what's going on! - Youtube is your friend in this matter!)
Don't stop, keep going! ![]()
