Re: MC 21: the pendulum

hey nice start.
Things to watch for.
- you stop really heavy. Could definitely slow that down, by adding some more frames to the stop.
- the upper board just stops straight. It should overshoot and settle. Watch a vehicle as it stops.
- When you start your anticipation, your bottom ball shoots forward, be careful there. As it shouldn't do that.
- Obviously the overlap etc should all be worked in as well.

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

@ Aloke316 - Well, I found it a lot more difficult than I expected to as well : ) I think the main thing is to start with something really simple, like just having it move once across the screen and then stop and settle. Once you get that working ok then it's easier to move on to something more elaborate.

For my workflow I don't offset anything (that's usually, I do break this 'rule' sometimes), I just key everything on the same frame and adjust the poses to make the last link in the chain look looser than the previous one and so on. That's just one way to approach it, many others use offsetting of keys but for me I find that gets confusing and difficult to edit, particularly if you need to re-time a section.

Cheers,
Brian

EDIT - oops I posted too slow, I missed your animation above. That looks like a great start. For me the loosness seems pretty even down the chain, maybe now try to make the last part look looser than the 2nd last etc, so you get more the impression that each part is being led by it's 'parent' part but lagging behind due to weight/inertia etc.

For the bottom ball shooting forward issue that cosmicfool mentioned, my usual way to fix those kind of things is to use AnnotatePro or another screen drawing tool to make a mark on the edge of the ball on the start frame and then use that as a reference for the antic pose. As cosmicfool said, the bottom ball shouldn't cross that line.

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

hey aloke,
think about the forces in your opening to the animation. Your base moves back, but for some reason your pendulum moves forward as if pushed by something.

with the deadline for the current deadline occuring on Monday, it would be nice to see Ohjin perhaps tackle a pendulum.

I did this a while ago, but here is none the less.

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I posted work on the forums. Just got done with a heap of uni assignments and i have about 3 days before the next bunch starts. At least I can vote and participate in one MC before I vanish again.

This isn't something new. i did it about a month ago but i thought this is the right forum to upload it since it meets all the requirements of this MC and could use some valuable critique. Am gonna try and do something in 2d and then maybe upload it later. Peace

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

cool.
I like the idea of having something jump on the pendulum.
Now heres where you need work.
1. from frame 7-37 that pendulum on the board is too extreme. Its fine from 7 on without any further pushing of that pose.
2. That pendulum, its all pretty pose to pose you could really break up those joints on the bottom, so they all arent hitting the extremes same time.
3. When that squirrel jumps onto the board, that board should react to it much sooner.

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

It looks quite good, maybe the overlap on the pendulum looks a bit forceful sometime, or it's too light. The ending I didn't really understand, why did it move that way? Could you include a framecounter? That way, giving crits would be far easier big_smile

@Aloke, this looks really good!
Maybe if the pendulum comes to rest a little bit earlier, it would be even better big_smile

Re: MC 21: the pendulum

hey wolfor , thanks for the comments , ya i will post one  with the frame counters . Towards the end the pendulum is looking at the ball and bangs head on with the "violet block"  .. Unable to move it drops downs its tail . That was the original idea . looking at it repeatedly I got used to it .   how did it look to you when you saw it for the first time ??
