Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

I attempted to animate a little in Maya and this is what came out of it.

What do you think? How can I change this to make it as good as I can?

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Umm, you should try concentrating on basics before attempting this. Start with bouncing ball and work your way upwards. Sorry if I sound harsh, but its in your best interest.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

while playblasting it would be nice if you hide the curves.. simply go to Show menu top  of the viewport and uncheck NURB curves .. to make this good .. i think its good to start from ball bounce in maya.. and understand how 3D works ..
.. where can i find that Rig.. i been surching for that..

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

I do agree with coolbird! Just start with the basics before you try to go into anything extreme for awhile. I've been doing this for six months now and I'm just starting to finish up my walk cycles. It will take you a bit, but you will get the foundations down and that's what really matters.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Ditch the squash and stretch, or ball resting for now. Just animate one single bounce, yeah just one bounce and get it done. Loop, and post it over here.
How do you loop an animation? Select the ball or whatever you are animating with, go to the Graph Editor, then the Curves menu, Post Infinity and click on Cycle.

Good Luck.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

good.. but the ball need to slow down at the top and speed up down..
also to know the spaceing.. go to Animate menu on the Top, and click on Create editable motion trail.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Agreed with fakepivot... maybe take a look at this tutorial and see how the arcs effect the timing of the bounce. You're doing good so far though, just keep going at it!

H'ok. Ditch all the fancy rendering / video stuff. Title cards and all that. It's a waste of time that you could spend working on improving your stuff.

Your run still doesnt have the hip rotation i talked about earlier.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

K, will do.

I can't rotate the hips w/o rotating the entire body on that rig though. Should I still rotate the bod?

Also, is there anything to change with my ball bounces?

here is the video minus the title cards:

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Hi man,

The ball that's just bouncing up and down in your last video looks pretty good. The one that's moving from left to right is a bit strange though. The ball shouldn't slow in and out from the bounces. Your motion trail should look more like this:

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Hi Lee,
You're starting to get a grasp of it but not completely. You have some issues with the timing currently.
Check this link out. It will help you loads. Be sure to go through the whole thing first.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

basically:
- while in the air; your arcs need to look like UPSIDE U's
- while bouncing; your arcs should look like V's

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

To me.. that is perfect. Now all you have to do is translate that movement to your graph editor to get the same type of motion.

Re: Animations made with Simple Bot: Part 1

Your motion is much better but your timing is all even. We don't need to see your motion trails in your playblasts though.

As it goes up it will slow down because gravity is pushing on it and as it goes down it will speed up.
The peek of the bounce should be very tight, how tight depends on the weight of the ball.
