Nice on cleaning up your curves!
It's coming along...
- (frame 346) when the waiter raises his arm; go ahead and keep that sorta pose, but don't hold it there. Use it for an
"antic" to place on his "hip" first.... then hold on his "hip"... then use that same "antic pose" before picking up the glass
from the table.
What do you think? ![]()

Just finished this up. I'm very proud of this, but be brutal haha
I started planning out my single person dialogue shot... I'll have blocked up tomorrow.

Started my new shot... the body mechanics have been blocked in. Such things as the eyes, some mouth shapes, and lip sync are not in yet. So don't get too distracted by them. I watched a lot of the Kenny Roy 24hr and its helped so much to look over the shoulder... I learned a lot and I hope it shows in this.

Re: Polish63's Giant Work in Progress Thread
This shot is looking very nice. Great blocking so far. If there is one thing it's perhaps to watch the right leg during the shot? I know it's not really in the shot much, but just at the end it looks slightly awkward. I'm not sure what you could do to change that though. Could he lift his leg at all during one of his bigger movements and take a small step forward so the leg can take the weight? Like I said i'm not sure, and maybe as you progress it won't actually look awkward at all. But anyway, it's looking great
Which rig are you using?

Re: Polish63's Giant Work in Progress Thread
Thanks for the comments wellings. I played with the leg a lot and toned it down... amped it up... and nothing really worked Raising it actually sounds like a good idea. Just enough to get rid of the flickering. The rig is Bishop and it's from Animation Mentor. I painted it up and added hair and stuff to change it up.

Yeah it looked like the Bishop Rig but I wasn't sure. When did you attend Animation Mentor? Do you have a reel from your time spent at the school?

Re: Polish63's Giant Work in Progress Thread
I graduated AM this time last year. Prior to AM I had ZERO experience... I only knew how to draw and watched animated movies. AM was awesome and learned so much. It was after I took those skills and knowledge started from the ground up (a lot of it being in this thread) Haven't looked for work just yet, but I'm going to submit my reel to Pixar for the summer internship just to say I did it. I'd be disappointed if I didn't.
Here's my reel: Keep in mind that I was learning something new EVERYDAY, made a lot of the typical mistakes, and layered in what I was learning over the stuff I was trying to understand.

Wow yea that's an awesome learning curve you have there! I love the pun at the shot with the guy trying to get a date
I always wondered, did you choose your audio files yourself, or is that something you get assigned to by the mentor? Does that come from their archive or from something like dailywav.com?

I think a lot of the stuff in the latest reel is very well done! I'd highly suggestion you remove/relocate the hammer one, though. I don't think it works well enough to be included. The hammer changes weight too often. Generally you only want to include a weight-related piece if you really, really nail it. That one needs more work to keep the hammer consistent.
Good luck with the Pixar internship! ![]()

My animation lightbulb didnt go off till I graduated... when I went back to the bouncing ball and ball with legs thats when I had my AH HA!
Heres the 1st Pass with very rough lipsync in there. Everythings still happening on the same keys, but the splines are clean.

Finished the 2nd Pass... changed the ending up a bit to a stomp to address the leg problem mentioned above. I still have eyes, finish the mouth and fingers to handle.

Hi!
I like both! About the clown, I found that on "clients" the mouth would need to be far more open, and something about the last hand gesture seems odd, can't place it yet. Maybe it's too much energy for the "anyofthem"?

Blocking of my 2 person dialogue.. I went with line I used before in AM. It's just such a good line and I wanted to do it right this time. I have 4days 17hrs 23min to get this finished... If I turned it in without it polished... it'll hurt my chances?

Re: Polish63's Giant Work in Progress Thread
Hey Polish this is looking awesome, you've made such great progress in this thread alone.
Mind if I jump in and ask a quick question?
I'm currently dreaming of becoming an Animator and am enrolled on AM, due to start the Summer program in June. I'm stupidly excited but I just wanted to hear about your experience a little more since I notice you too had no experience prior.
I have pretty much zero experience too. I know Maya inside out since I've worked as an artist for the last 5 years or so, but other than some basics to get a handle on the animation features of Maya, I'm a complete beginner.
This concerns me a little since I see some mind-blowing stuff coming out of AM, but I know a lot of grads had extensive experience before they started.
I'm very keen to become 'employable' as soon as I can either during or after AM, and obviously I intend to put my all into it (I'm fortunate in my current job that I have enough free time to really dedicate to it). Have you found work since you graduated? Do you think it's possible to get there in just the 18 months at AM?
Look forward to hearing your comments, and keep up the fantastic work!

Re: Polish63's Giant Work in Progress Thread
AM is flat the greatest experience I had... everyone is super friendly and they want to help you succeed. Become friends with everyone! Talk, comment, post often, and stay active with your classmates. That was my biggest regret at the start... the first 3 classes I was pretty timid and quite.
"This concerns me a little since I see some mind-blowing stuff coming out of AM, but I know a lot of grads had extensive experience before they started"
It's just that, you don't have experience and you shouldn't compare yourself to the guys/girls that already do... here's the sweet part. You get to see how they work. From planning to polish you can ride their coattails and ask questions. Everyone's different... my animation light bulb didn't go off till the end

The career services and amazing and they'll get you a job. I decided to wait and practice a bit more and work on my reel before applying for a job. Im going to polish my reel some more before I post here, but after that I'll looking for remote gigs. There was a recent AM grad that was recently hired by Pixar who quit her job and focused on AM for the whole 18 months. ANIMATION IS CONCENTRATION. That's the beauty part of AM... you can contact this people and ask any question. I graduated a year ago and I emailed Bobby Beck about my clown shot and he gave me some great notes.
If your worried about Maya I recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/How-Cheat-Maya-20 … amp;sr=8-1
The only way to get better animation is to animate. There's tons of blogs, books, and other animators that can help you along the way. What you make of the 18 months is up to you and trust me it'll go by fast.

hey! I'd comment your animation but I suggest you to think through your acting choice more. Coz now it's seems that he's just makes his brows angry and waves arms and bends his back.
