Re: Jump Animation In Maya- Pleae Review
If this is only your second animation in maya I'd recommend doing something a bit more simple. Like starting with a bouncing ball. Currently your character feels like they are being pulled up..not jumping. Think of his root as a bouncing ball. The start of the jump would be fast, then it would slow at the top of the arc (where gravity is starting to pull him back down) then he would speed up as he falls to the ground. Like I said I would start with something a little more simple than a jump then go from there

Re: Jump Animation In Maya- Pleae Review
detailed comments would be easier if you posted a quicktime file that can be scrubbed thru frame by frame.
It looks like you have the basic mechanism of keyframing figured out, but the up and down pacing of the body is not like that of someone who has jumped into the air and fallen back down and the posing of the legs and feet makes it look like they are not doing the work. It looks a bit like he is being hauled up in the air by an invisible rope.
I think a great next step would be to back up and do a standard bouncing ball and do it well and become accustomed to showing gravity in action, then return to this more complex exercise and put that in practice.

Re: Jump Animation In Maya- Pleae Review
I think you shouldn't start off right by learning things like jumps and other body mechanics stuff. You need a strong foundation at the beginning so that your following work will be on a higher level. I know that it might sound hard right now, but you need to go back to the very beginning and start off with the bouncing ball exercise and learning the principles, when you REALLY want to be an animator. We will definetly help you on that way ![]()
Your piece of work isn't on a level where we can actually give you critiques on, right now.
I think comment number 1 meets exactly what i want to say: http://www.11secondclub.com/helpful_hints/the_top_5
Now don't feel discouraged by these words. It's a hard way to learn animation and the community will definetly help you by learning all this stuff from the beginning!
Keep moving forward! ![]()

I would say "not". You really need to have the core motion correct before those can be judged.
We have hit on bouncing balls previously here.
In this post in this thread...

... I link to two videos that, while not quite tutorials, do cover some aspects of bouncing ball in CG that are often gotten wrong.

Don't rush it. It's better to get it right than to get it fast.

Re: Jump Animation In Maya- Pleae Review
Yeah, this is much better now! I think you should fix the hoppy pop at the beginning. Make it softer or leave it out, it's not really necessary unless you want him to take extra momentum. The timing works really good now. I would add another pose when he hits the ground. You don't feel much weight right now. So when he hits the ground let him travel down a bit further. Right now that end seems a little bit stiff.
But all in all, this is a huge improvement! ![]()

Re: Jump Animation In Maya- Pleae Review
Hi, first of all if you want to have good rewiev add some framecounter, so that we could say like "f23 if wrong..".
But in general.
I don't understand first part of animation... What is he doing? Is it anticipation, or he is thinking about something?
If you want to do a jump, than the character should firstly squash for anticipation, than stretch to jump, than become normal at the top then stretch again to go down, then squash at the bottom.
By that squash and stretch I don't mean that you havу to deform the body, but his hands, legs etc.. must do this squash and stretch.
I'd recomend to shoot video reference of yourself or watch youtube. Try to stand in those poses you made and you will understand that they are awkward. Take the reference and study it frame by frame to understand what leads and what follows.
The first couple of poses are very strange. In the first one he stands right, but then his feet and hands slide forward but the body stays in place (can you do that?)
But it's a start and there is room for improvement.
