MC 26: The silent scream
Hello guys and gals,
This mini-challenge is inspired by the famous artwork by Edvard Munch, titled ''the scream''! Printed in many forms, it captures a moment of silent terror, a victims scream lost against the wind whipping around in the background.
The challenge is to produce a silent scream, shout or roar! Yep thats right, we want these animations silent as a lamb. If he screams as loud as Ferdinand the Bull when he sits on a bee, you've got this all wrong.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl … uRo#t=187s
There are so various different routes to be explored. Babies scream when upset, so do little children who can't get their own way. Children can scream in delight. Mortal Kombat's Sindall screams are used as a weapon, while one of the X-men uses a scream to fly. Donald Duck would scream and shout to express his temper!
Remember, facial animation is hard, so keep your idea simple. You can of course put your full body into it. You may also wish to animate to sound, but mute it upon submission.
As always the animation could be anywhere between 75-125 frames. If you have any questions about submission requirements, please check How-to-participate section for more details. Deadline is Monday 20th February.
I'll leave you guys with an short performance by Jennifer Lawrence, who shows just how powerful a silent scream can be. To watch, please click the pic. Enjoy!

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
I just got into this section for the first time. Love the idea for the challenge but can't meet the deadline. In fact too busy that I can't join the competition this month either. I look forward to seeing some posts for this challenge.

It's not important what happens on a frame, it's important what happens between them.

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Okay, it says I posted that last one at 5:17 and it's 5:42 now, so pretty much exactly half hour (though 10 minutes of it was just fighting Flash to get it actually scanned and animated).
I wish I had more time, but when I saw your personal challenge, wolfor, I figured "Hey, I can manage 30 minutes, it will be good practice." Now back to work on the Feb 11 Second Entry and my Fred the Monkey stuff!

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Hey great work guys,
As for lack of participation on this one, we have run the challenges for almost a year. We cant win every time. Great to see the response by you guys though. Good luck JKR with the monthly composition ![]()
I have also been lackluster and haven't posted the fighting results yet. Definitely on the cards for this weekend

That's great JKR! Far better than mine ![]()
The next half hour or so still has to wait, but I'll have my 2 hours full by the weekend!
(maybe have to stretch those two hours a bit in order to get the graph editor redux working and see how to use it

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Nice stuff wolfor n jkr. Lil penguin, i thnk the lack of participation could be due to the nature of the challenge. most people that do the mini chalenge are starters n cant attempt acting shots quite yet. i think physical shots generaly pull the mini chalenge crowd better. of course the chalenge is very cool, no argument there.

Ha ha, I like your posing better. I think all you need is a bit more squash in the anticipation! Go for it!

Wow, she's sure got some... "features." ![]()
Right now I get a little more of a "singing" vibe from the scream motion. I think a quick and simple way to fix that might be to bring her hands up near her face with her arms tucked in, in a typical "Ahh, I'm scared!" fashion. ![]()
Other than that, good work!

Well, with still another half hour to go, I got this far:
not very impressing I must admit, but lets see where the last half hour takes me

And this is what I did after 2 hours. I though I must come further than this, but, well, I didn't. Bugger ![]()
Maybe I can put in a few more extra minutes to refine it tomorrow

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Well, that's my first WIP. I plan to make him scream at the begining when he rises and one big scream at the end. That is the second pass on the body. I have some problems with inbetweens, but hope to figure it out. I faced a similar problem to the one with "12 images jawn". OK, back to work!

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Hey Barteko,
Starting to look great! As one of the Bancroft twins said, animation you not only need to know weight and timing, but know anatomy well too. You may find this link useful which breaks down step by step how to build up to complex figures.

also check the work out of frequent visitor to the 11 Second Club, JKR. His Fred the Monkey is full of life and he made an appearance on a previous challenge

Oh wolfor, I know you aren't going to like hearing this... but... I kind of like the first one better where she doesn't smile first! o.O
Sorry! But I think the smile feels a little forced. I dunno. I really really like the other one though! Pre-smile. ![]()

Re: MC 26: The silent scream
Thanks Pinguine! It has some nicely simplified guides to timing too, checking it out. But I disagree with the author that Bevis and Buthead are bad designs
JKRs 3D look cool to (I only saw 2D of his before)
