I'm new here ! 2D animation

Hi 11 second club ! I am a animator student, from Quebec city. I have to make a short film in few month and if i want to gain more experience into the 2D animation, i will try to give my best skill for each competition and maybe, be in the top 10. Here i set the keypose and will make the in-Between soon.

Re: I'm new here ! 2D animation

Welcome to the boards! It's always nice to see more 2D animation folk around here.

One thing you might want to do is draw the whole figure. When you don't have the feet grounded (even if they won't be seen) it throws off the top half of your character. During the first bit her legs get farther and farther apart. Is she sliding downward? Stepping? It's unclear. So give that a shot and then keep working at it, good luck!

I take note about what you said with her feet and voil  ! She step at some moments and slide at the end. I think the animation is ok but i will see it after some sleep, if i can still correct it more.

your doing good. I see a lot of improvement in that last reel. I find that this stuff is really a whittleing process. You really have to tweak the work here and there and re-evaluate it. I look foreward to the inbetweens , should be really neat. Good luck

I still work in the tweak and it give some improvement. I try to make a realistic animation. I don't want to exagerate.

Hey, Cara!

How are you? First of all, welcome to the Animation Mafia LOL just kidding! smile

Well, you have a funny drawing style, and it can be a very cool idea! The only issue we have here (and I think it´s an ALL-ANIMATOR ISSUE LOL) is your timing... You have many normal poses without a quick timing, then suddenly the girl flies at speed of light to the right side of the screen.......

I suggest you to animate pose-to-pose... If you´re new, the pose-to-pose method is when you put key poses, and inbetween then, little by little until smooth it all...

For now, i see you animated all straight ahead, like a flipbook, isnt?

This way can result in a very floaty animation, and things tends to get infinity and screwed... A real mess! Trust me, I had to make lots of studies like yours to realise I was wrong huahuahuahu!!!

But I like a lot your first poses and the finger little noise pose is very cool!

Keep going and let´s talk more and more about animation! Count on me if you need some help!

Hugs and cheers from Brasil.

Mauro.

I really get stared into the 2D animation.. i learn the basic rules used in Disney; keyPose,inBetween, slowIn, SlowOut, etc. There are 12 rules i think. If you saw my really first video, i put the KeyPose first, in the second video i make the inBetween for all KeyPose, that make a straight animation without SlowIn or SlowOut and finally i tried to put some (a)/(de)celeration in the tirth video.... It's not easy ! I really need to work on the timing and maybe i'm too shy for making exagerate pose too.

Well your comment helped me a lot ! I may not make a good animation for this first try but i will learn for the next months smile Have a good day !

Re: I'm new here ! 2D animation

Most of your animation looks good, looking forward to see more progress and future shots!

The turn and run at the end is way too fast. You really need to get some reference for that part. Usually the simplest way to do this is to just record yourself acting out the shot. It doesn't have to be good at all, as long as you get a general feel for timing, necessary poses, etc.

I just wanted to adress this comment btw:

- I try to make a realistic animation. I don't want to exaggerate.

I assume that by "exaggerate" you mean cartoony animation? You normally exaggerate emotion and thoughts in all kinds of acting media. Whether it be animation, real-life movies or traditional theatre. We have to have that exaggeration to understand what is going on in a character's head, and to feel involved.

Just wanted to clarify the difference between cartoony animation and exaggeration. If you want to go hard-core realism, you're gonna have to start rotoscoping. wink

Re: I'm new here ! 2D animation

I think i won't finish the short for this month. But i tried to make a better job on the keyPose and i think i get a improvement on it. I will still be there for the next month and try to do it without my first mistakes. smile
