MC 25: Let's fight!

Hello guys and gals,
After a shot break, we are now hoping to recommence the two week mini-challenges. The theme for this challenge stems from a post in November, where we provided a link to the Art-Eater blog, where Richmond Chaisiri discusses the animation principles used in Capcom's 1994 title, Darkstalkers.

http://blog.11secondclub.com/2011/11/fi … y-and.html

We invite you to be creative with this challenge and create a fighting move of your choice, however please base your creative thoughts upon the core animation principles. Depending on your choice of character, this could be a great opportunity to experiment with weight, timing and spacing. Is your character is super strong like the Hulk or maybe a Jedi sword master? Is your character's actions based on a particular sport or animal? You may wish to use your favourite video game as inspiration (for example Tekken, Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter). Maybe your character is a chain belt master, with Bruce Lee as his teacher! Its up to you.

Creativity and solid animation are key to this task, so keep it simple and maybe just animate a single move.

However you choose to do battle, its time to test your might!!

Again the animation could be anywhere between 75-125 frames. If you have any questions about submission requirements, please check How-to-participate section for more details.

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Ooo, a fighting move! That's a new one for me, I rarely do the "action hero" side of animation. Should be a good lesson/exercise!

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Blurframe, this actually looks pretty sweet! Was unsure if the roar at the start was pushed enough, but its starting to grow. The posing of the hands at the beginning still need some work, f1-29, but I'm liking this piece more and more.

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Thanks  thelittlepenguin84,
Yeah, I am gonna work on the wrists and fingers once all the body posing is in place and the timing works. The first version just had the basic poses, crude and rough so I can figure out what I need to do.

I am trying to add some dynamism to the posing, they were looking very computery (if that's a word)...Am focusing on the meat of the action for now and would appreciate some comments about arcs and posing...
I am particularly not sure whether the head looks like its bobbing loosely just before the smash and the feet towards the end of the file.

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Nice entry. It can move at this speed, but if you choose to do so, be careful with your selection of poses and breakdown of the beat. I could be wrong, but please consider moving the front leg back on the 7th and 8th poses, so body completely arcs back in a 'u'. Have the whole body, follow the line of action in the jump.

You may also, want to move red man forward. Its fine to miss, but possibly have him stepping back before countering. this will give the blue man's movement more intent. Possibly the blue guy can be muscular, while the red man is made of elastic which will allow you to stretch out of the way. Your poses will be different, but as a guide, consider using arthurnal's Toilet Please for reference

http://www.11secondclub.com/competitions/may11/winner

look how the body moves into on frames 159-170. Your red man could move similarly smile

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

I personally believe you should slow it down, Steve. Not the whole action, but maybe give a bit of hang time to the jump to give the punch a little more emphasis before it hits.

Blurframe, i think the dynamic posing is a good idea. The poses could be a little more interesting.

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Thanks blackbird I will see what I can do...Might try something different maybe, lets see...

Hey SteveToons, those are some interesting poses, I tried playing the file at 12 fps and you can really read them. Basically the body shud move like a bouncing ball, quick start, slow at the top and faster fall...And I think in this case its a matter of sliding the poses on the timeline until they feel right. You ve got the arcs and shapes looking good, now its about FORCE...Altho I am not sure about the last pose and how you are gonna transition at the top when the right hand comes forward...But maybe some breakdowns will make it more clear...

Nice rig from AM , makes 2D looking silhouettes...

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Hey!
@kundan yours looks quite nice, already. What I think needs improvement is the turn of the blue character around f30, I think you could add some more weight shifts to the legs that are on the ground, also I see a slight jerk in the torso's movement shortly before he gets hit by the red character.
When he's landing on the ground his head might overlap a bit more. And the camera angle when he's lying on the ground looks weird, mostly because his hand comes from without into the frame, and looks like it doesn't belong to him. Better would be if you'd pull the camera back a little and then zoom in, that way you'll see his torso also when he's putting up his hand, while remaining in the same framing.

@patty: Looks carp. tongue

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

great working patrick. I would love to detail further, but the simple criticism I would give at the start is to lose the first camera composition. Not sure if it is necessary and even taking away from the piece.

Of course you are going to want a different pose at 235 and 237 for both wrestlers. Both keep pushing because so far it looks fab!

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Nice one Patrick.
The blocking is working quite well. In the last pose you may want to rotate the rt foot outwards, it looks like it could be  painful for him.

Re: MC 25: Let's fight!

Hi! Looks great, but I would lose the camera movement, that's not working. Also, I think that he somehow stops in the air at about frame 105 which seems a bit unnatural.
Great work!

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

I recently made the Green Lantern texture using the Morphy rig, and this challenge was a perfect time to try and use it. Hope you guys like it.

Thanks wolfor
I have removed the camera and adjusted things around frame 105 a little bit. If I make the fall closer to a real fall any more then it starts to take away something from the clap.

Hey Steve
This is looking very good man. Love the punch towards the end. Has a nice game feeling to it. If you want to give something finished I guess you can focus just on the blue guy and work on the red guy later.
