Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

I like it blackbird! Yeah, the draftsmanship leaves something to be desired, but I think the timing and concept are well done regardless. And hey, at least you know the one thing you need to work on! (Like me, who sucks at drawing as well.)

My entry (final form) will be here later today. Sorry for the slight delay; we had company from out of town over the weekend and I thought they were leaving last night but they stayed until today. I'll get right on it.

EDIT: Done and done. Well, as done as it will get. I'm not happy with some frames, but I'll survive. Hopefully next time I'll use the lessons learned from this one!

I know I'm too late, but I managed to get my first blocking done, and I'll probably manage to work on it tomorrow as well big_smile

Hey JKR that looks REALLY good! Very appealing work you got there big_smile

Wolfer your looks good too! I like the Tom and Jerry style lol. I would just break the poses up so that it doesn't all hit on the same frame. Presto does this amazingly well.

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

Like the idea. Nice execution, but wish to push you further if you have time. Thinking whether it would be possible to lean forward when running on the spot, then his legs take off and his body is left dragging slightly behind.

Either way, during the final few frames, the top half of the body seems forgotten about. Your still on blocking tho, which you looked to have done a great job so far.

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

Hi!
Thanks, yea its still in posing stage, so I've got them all on a frame still, that's what I'll try to do tomorrow big_smile And Steve, you're right, I more or less "forgot" the upper body but I'll address that tomorrow, too big_smile

It's always so much fun to see 3D pushed to more "2D" lengths! Nice blocking wolfor! Hope to see it finished. smile

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

You know, as extreme as that super-freaked-out pose is, I feel like it's very stiff. What might help is after the crouch anticipation, "roll" him out instead of going straight to the pose. What I mean by that is have his head go up first, then his body, then finally his feet leave the ground. (All quickly of course. It will be a "feel" thing more than something you see.) Also consider moving his back arm, it's not in the best place it could be for a stronger silhouette. Either push it back towards the other arm, or forward so you see it more. It's partially hidden, and you want either totally hidden or very clearly seen.

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

Haha. That's real funny Wolfor. I just love the Malcom rig. Crazy! One thing though, man; Like JKR said, I think the head arms , hips and legs move out of the squash way too uniformly. (Easy to spot if u go frame by frame) I think you should offset them for a little more "cartooniness" Awesome piece-good luck.

Oh and JKR, I love that piece. the bird's expression is cute and yet mean. Nice.

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

Hi there!
With Maya taking nearly a whole day for technical issues and then another half day because it chose not to save my animation, let alone some personal stuff I am deeply concerned with atm I just arrived at this point i already was, haha big_smile so I just started to make the anticipation look better and enhance some of the poses, and started splining.
But I even remembered adding a frame counter! lol

Re: MC 19: To Spook or Not to Spook

Hi again,
I know that I'm really far too late, but I still do some tweaks on the animation big_smile

Direct Link

I now started splining and improved the poses, especially before the take. I know that most wont see much of a difference here...
I could paint Malcolm's nose red and post this as Clown in the MC20:The Circus thread, though, then I wouldn't be too late big_smile

Turned out really well! Good job, wolfor. Now all you need to do is get speedier to not miss deadlines and you'll be set! smile
