Something about 11 sec clubs compression
Is it just me, or does it seem like every month the movies uploaded for the contest seem to throw off the lip sync of a lot of the shots? Or maybe I am just crazy.

Re: Something about 11 sec clubs compression
For the past few months when I preview my own animation after uploading it's very off. It stutters in places and holds some frames longer than it should. I have no idea why, because it plays absolutely perfectly on my computer and any other I move it over to via USB. It's very strange.
Once the voting is over I'll try to refresh to see if it's just some weird bug with the initial uploaded file. Hopefully everyone else is seeing the nice, smooth animation I did instead of the buggy one that plays for me...

Yea I found that, too. More often than that, the playback stutters, especially at times the site might experience high traffic. I guess this happens because the video now gets embedded using html5 rather than using quicktime like it used to be.

Re: Something about 11 sec clubs compression
Yea for a while I was thinking it might be my machine, the playback is just really jittery, and laggy, atleast I am not the only one who noticed, and agreed edwin, some great entries so far, I still have more voting to do.

Re: Something about 11 sec clubs compression
Yes this month specially, i had a lot of troubles while voting. The playback was giving me one animated frame after freezing 10 frames.
I was using firefox and i didn´t vote any entry because it was horrible playblack, but then with explorer i watched most the entries perfectly at once.
But is always an issue, is a thing that administrators might want to check and change because can cause lower ratings due to playblack problems, agravated by the fact that some entries play smoothly and others not, and is not always obvious that there is playblack problem and some can think that the animation is like that.

I had problems, too. I thought it was just my laptop. The video kept freezing while the audio kept playing... a lot of times I just thought the animation was unfinished or something, but when I played it again the video was fine.
Speaking of the audio, did anyone else notice that a lot of people left off the last part of the audio? The "swipe" noise.

firefox 5 = very bad playblack, even after the video is completely load.
explorer 8 = smooth playblack

Yes great entries! For me I didn't notice any playback issues. I voted yesterday morning when there was a bit of traffic as well. Google Chrome 13.0.782.218

Re: Something about 11 sec clubs compression
A quick sampling of five entries using Firefox 3.6.16 had them all paying quite well.
(Am I really three versions behind?
I dimly recall upgrading to something more current a while back and there was some grim side effect that I could only fix by ditching it and reverting, but i don't quite remember what it was. I'm sure it was something more significant than not being able to watch 11Sec entries.)

I'm using the latest Firefox, but it doesn't seem to be every video for me, just some (such as my own). Dunno if that helps!

Re: Something about 11 sec clubs compression
@characteranim78, you wouldn't believe how much time I've spent ensuring that our encoder doesn't introduce sync issues for the majority of uploads. I've listened to many encodes frame by frame, 100ms by 100ms to ensure we're encoding things properly. I've found we're often more accurate than YouTube. That said, we get a lot of different formats thrown at us, and some of them cause issues. That's why we have articles helping people to encode to formats we know won't cause sync issues. Whenever I see a major sync issue while approving the entries, I check what the user uploaded, and 99% of the time, it's in the actual file uploaded in addition to ours which means it was either animated that way, or the user introduced the issue when they encoded it. So, if you have specific examples, let me know, and I can get you the originals to compare.
@all, as to the HTML5 video issues: HTML5 is still a very new standard. I've ensured the player works reasonably well in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and IE9. But, I can't test every version on every platform. If you're having issues, please let me know EXACTLY what version you're using on what operating system and version. Thanks!

Actually, you're just 2.5 versions "behind" since 3.5 was a major update as well. I remember they were updating to 4 and 5 in a very fast interval, I guess because of security reasons. 6 has been released just recently.
But as they say, never change a running system ![]()

Def sounds like a firefox issue, and Bog I trust you have done plenty of work, so please don't think otherwise, It def must be my process of making the movies, because it never fails I get ripped apart on lip sync but on my end it was pretty darn spot on, in my experience making flv and then uploading to the web has always given me good results, but maybe its biting me in the ass for the competition.
