MC Week 5 - Walk Cycle - Start 7.4/End 7.11

What to do: Animate a Walk Cycle. It can be vanilla or with personality
Time limit: 24 hours
Process: Blocking/Blocking+ as usual.

Last week was really discouraging, with only one entrant. So if there isn't a bigger turn out I'll pass the baton on to someone else to take over.

Re: MC Week 5 - Walk Cycle - Start 7.4/End 7.11

totoro... i like the squashy feel of your walk.. i think you can try varying the spacing of the ups and downs more... maybe he goes up in a slow pace, holds a b it, then drops down just after the down pose... this gives a sense of weight

kiopaa.. maybe you can add some overlaping on your arms.. that will really soften up your animation

Re: MC Week 5 - Walk Cycle - Start 7.4/End 7.11

Hey everyone!

I thought I'd have a go at this one too. Good to see I'm not the only one using the Bee-boy rig big_smile

This took between 3 and 4 hours on and off throughout the day. Crits are more than welcome!

Re: MC Week 5 - Walk Cycle - Start 7.4/End 7.11

hey zombryn.. i like your walk... there is one thing though... i think it would also look interesting and more in character if you would space his feet from the up position to the contact and down in a more snappy manner.. really try to favor that up position that way he sort of stomps downward... also you can make the foot flat from the contact even 1 frame earlier... this gives a nice snap to his stylized walk. cool stuff..

Definitely don't want to see the Mini Challenges go away, so thought i'd take some time out of making dvd covers and whatnot to have a go. 4 maybe 5 hours spent on it.  Comments are most welcome.  Thanks!!!!

Ryan,

There's a lot of stuff to like about this walk cycle. Great job. A few things I would look at:

1. His arms/hands look like their really having to make an effort to help move this character a long. The rest of the body, including his expression seem to project a casual, relaxed walk. However his clenched fists and wide swinging arms seem to contradict this. If the rig allows I would suggest opening the hands a bit, and bringing his arms closer to the body a tad. Don't lose that great figure 8 fluidity you have in the arm movement though!

2. I really love the overlapping action on the ears and the tail... really great job. I feel like the tail is missing some bounce though. Some up and down movement is needed.

These are just a few minor things to tighten up this great piece. Awesome job!

Re: MC Week 5 - Walk Cycle - Start 7.4/End 7.11

hey RyanHagen... your walk is nice.. definitely smooth and nice arcs on the arms.. i like the overlap of the tail and ears.. its really cute... i like the changes in action lines as he switches back and forth from step to step.. theyre good. there are a few things though that i think should be addressed...

-the arms have more force to them then what the walk is portraying.. the arms swinging that high and in that motion would probably suit better on a skip where the up position would be off the ground and the contact position would be on 1 foot..

-the hands are completely closed as if that fox is just about ready to enter a boxing match... unless this is what is intended, i suggest you open those fingers up and drag them around.. it would fit a joyful walk such as that.. if not open atleast closed in a more appealing way...

good animating!
