Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

I must say, they already have an impressive roster of instructors, and the format seems exciting, although very similar to AM. Then again, there's not much they could do differently. It seems like the program might be a bit more intense as it is longer and jumps into acting quicker, and has a whole semester for a short film.

Now all we need is an IAnimate Monthly Competition big_smile

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Seems like there's a webinar today at 1pm (i presume PDT).

http://ianimate.net/index.php?option=co … 7bb65fc27a

You know, I look at schools like this, and AM, and wish I had the time and money to engage in them, as I think they'd be the most sensible and enjoyable way for me to learn the craft. But I've already been out of work for 8months, and what would add up to 2 years after doing one of these programs, which simply isn't practical for me.

It makes me a little sad, as i'm sure i'd love these programs, and I think they'd be a great help, but I've got to do it the old fashioned way.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

wow jeez.. i just read the instructors profiles.. every single one of them work at dreamworks animation.. thats very impressive... and one thing there is that you can skip the basics if u already have a clear understanding of it.. (that way you wont have to do bouncing balls if u've already got it)..

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

I already signed up for it!  I had been thinking about Animation Mentor for a while (now I'm not bashing AM, I think its a great school and seriously considered going there) but decided against it.  I had been using some of Jason Ryan's tutorials and webinars he offers on his website and he's a great teacher.  I'm super excited to be taught by him and other pros.  Its also about $8,000 less than AM!

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Wow this was a nice surprise, right now I'm considering studying my arse of for a half year then start with the third semester(if my reel is accepted) Due to the lack of funds.

Edit: After writing this I realised that the first third semester wont start until spring 2011, so maybe I will start in 3/4 of a year. smile

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Do you have to be 18? sad
One of the things that REALLY annoys me about AM is that you have to be 18 years of age.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

TaylorH - I know what you mean! But they are schools just like CalArts or Sheridan so you do have to be 18.

This school looks pretty awesome so far! It's definitely making me re-evaluate my thoughts on my secondary education options.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Yup. I've definitley heared of them but man...you guys in the US are lucky =]
There has never been anything like Sheridan or CalArts in the UK.
I know some people who went to those places.
Even the administrator of Polycount.com, a place I go on a lot, went to Sheridan.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Great stuff going guys. I'm glad for Jason that he is getting this much attention already without marketing yet. Go iAnimate!

Moximilian: I'm pretty sure that the first 3 semesters will be offered now, and the other semesters, 4,5,and 6 will be offered later. but that was my understanding of it, just don't quote me on it.

TaylorH: I also didn't read of a age limit, but that would be a great question to ask Jason... I will try and further investigate but you can also on the site just hit the contact and send him an email. He is a great guy and will send you an email as soon as he can

Ramimator: That is awesome man, congrats on applying hope you get in to the semester you want.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

I imagine if you can test out of the basics there shouldn't be any kind of age requirement. You should look into it.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

I'm just wondering... With AnimationMentor being the main sponsor of the 11 Second Club that maybe it is becoming a bit unprofessional, possibly disrespectful, for this discussion to start actively promoting a competing online animation school in this forum? Even if the original intent was general animation news for discussion.

By promote, I mean give out endorsing comments and details.

As a point of reference, I enjoy the discussion on animation education in these forums with reference to the variety of schools. But I recognise that this new school is a direct online competitor with this forum's sponsor.

I was just wondering about that. To me it feels a bit awkward in view of the great asset the 11 Second Club is and recognising their sponsorship links.

I guess I could choose not to click on this thread. I am curious how people think and whether they cast their awareness a bit wider and the effects of their actions.

What do you animator's out there think? (I wonder if the discussion will evolve into something Darwinian?)

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Hey Franko...i really don't know if that forum is something wrong or not but what i think is that 11 secondclub is not owned by animation mentor....it's like a worldcup that can be sponsored by Pepsi and Coca at the same time..they sponsored the event..(strange example right??..big_smile)...anyway I don't think this is an issue and Ianimate is an animation school like every animation school, we spoke about here in that forum..the point is that Ianimate is an online SO AM??...but finally they are all Animation schools and competitors...

Anyway if there is any prob. I think a moderator will show it..

anyway i'm so happy till now 2 or 3 mates at Ianimate school..big_smile

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Yeah Franko, I understand what you mean. It is kinda akward talking about a different school in so much of an Animation Mentor presence but hey, AM has built it self a really nice community and they certainly have a strong foundation and they wont be gone in a long time! =]

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Hey Rami.
No worries mate. I know the moderators would drop in a note.

But I like to think that we moderate ourselves. That's probably my main exploration. Is how a community self regulates. How aware animators are of the online community resources being provided for only the fee, our input, of 'the sweat from an animator's brow' - in entering the competition and being involved in discussion.

We're not paying the day-to-day stuff, so the expenses are being covered by someone. Likely a sponsor.

I'm actually curious on what animators think, or if they are aware enough of the links between 11 Second Club and AnimationMentor to moderate their own comments.

Re: Ianimate online School...Woaw

Thanks for your input Taylor.

I don't have any experience of the AM community but their marketing certainly shows a good, supportive educational community foundation.

The animation resource I'm actually focussing on here is the 11 Second Club. Sponsorship to provide something as good as this is important.
