[Body Mechanics] MC Week 3 - Ball Kick - Start 6.20/End 6.27

Ok so per KyleG's suggestions, we're going ahead with a body mechanics shot this week: the ball kick, in light of the World Cup.

What to do: Animate a character kicking a ball. You can have him simply run up and kick it, or he can do some fancy trick, such as a bicycle kick.
Time Limit: 24 hours.
Process: This will be the first one that we definitely want to focus on blocking or blocking+. If you spend enough time on it in a 24 hour period, you'll probably end up going past blocking, depending on how complex of a shot you've chosen, but try to just focus on the main poses.
Hint: For a shot like this, it's definitely good to plan it out. Even simple sketches on a sheet of A4 paper will do nicely. If you plan it out, scan it and let us see that as well!

Re: [Body Mechanics] MC Week 3 - Ball Kick - Start 6.20/End 6.27

@dennisvolkerts

to show more force and focus on the ball, I would keep the spine bent over a little forward in the contact positions.
maybe in the "down" positions you can bend the head just a little back to show a nice overlap.
on frame 60 it feels like right leg is going in the wrong direction. or the it seems the ball is going in the wrong direction.
maybe you can bring the foot more to the camera first and then give him a slight turn or make him fall forward like I drew.
and also in frame 60 the line of action is like a straight L shape try to give him a smoother line of action.

have fun while animating this guy nice work

thanx totoro! smile nice feedback! realy likes your comment on my video.
i will follow your instructions! smile
about the ball.. it was just a quick animation using the grapheditor without even looking to the directions.
for the leg at frame 60.. its definitely wrong. i should adjust the polevector.
thanks for your drawings, i will post a second wip for today. with some more blocked out poses (up and downs)

kiopaa,
I really like the character, you have some nice and clean poses here.
Can't wait to see the finished piece.
Keep up the good work!

Re: [Body Mechanics] MC Week 3 - Ball Kick - Start 6.20/End 6.27

Hey guys, great work so far. I think one you could exaggerate the force of the kick is to not even have a pose with the foot contacting the ball. This could be similar to a punch and not showing the actual contact frame to show the force.

Keep it up. I might even give this one a try.

Re: [Body Mechanics] MC Week 3 - Ball Kick - Start 6.20/End 6.27

Hi Tom, nice work.
while he is walking, the "up" and "down" positions look very extreme. I would keep the head almost in the same level.
before he kicks the ball you can make him take a small step backwards while still looking down to the ball, then kick the ball a little faster.
he looks unbalanced while keeping his leg back like that.
have fun

Re: [Body Mechanics] MC Week 3 - Ball Kick - Start 6.20/End 6.27

I'll get tucked into one of these challenge properly when i've finished this months entry for the main competition. In the meantime, and i'm sure this is cheating, but i'll put it up anyway, just because it can't hurt...

I did this about 2 weeks ago, during a self imposed animation challenge where I had 24hrs to create various 2seconds shots recommended by facebook friends.

Yeah, next time try not using something you've already made if you can.

haha sure, makes sense really. I did make it in 24hrs though, but yes, it seems I in fact did it a month ago. I'll do a proper job next time, promises.
