Why you should keep trying.
This is a thread that was started back in 2002 by a then-22 year old guy. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=870
Go check out the first couple of pages. Or if you don't have time, at least take a look at his sketches and paintings:
If you have a few hours to spend, I highly recommend reading through the entire thread in order, especially his posts.

If anyone ever needed proof that "talent" isn't a factor in learning to create imagery, this is it. Time, practice, and desire are what most people call "talent." Very inspirational!

I really like that quote! Did you write it yourself or borrow it from someone else?

Thanks. That's all me - I've been saying it for years to anyone who will listen.

Thanks Aja. My students will love this thread. Initially it will look like homework. But then they will love it! ![]()

Hey Paul that quote is gold. I plan to use it (with attribution). I've always been keen to describe to my students the difference and substance of the words "skills" and "talent". In every class we practice and develop skills. As those skills are personalised and form the individual animator's creative process, the resultant work is what people see as the manifestation of talent. I definitely like the way you put it better. ![]()
