February 2017 Animation Progress

Here's an animation that I've put together using Blender. I figured that it would be a good idea to avoid doing the lip sync before I'm sure that I have the movements locked in. For that reason, this character has a creepy unmoving mouth while he talks. Please ignore that. Let me know of any changes I can make to improve the flow of the movements. Eventually another character will be added to say the woman's lines, but I'm taking this animation one step at a time.

For this animation, I'm using the Porl rig, which can be found here: http://www.11secondclub.com/forum/viewt … p?id=12495

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

Is he going to be wearing glasses with no lenses in them? If so it might be nice to have him take them off and look at them for a moment as he says one of his lines.... like   "They just kept getting dirty.... so I took them out" or something like this.

Way to get jumping on this on day one. I'm doing the same. Keep this up and you'll have a top 11 animation submission for sure.

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

I was thinking about giving him glasses with no lenses, but I'm not sure if that's all I should do. I'd assume that's what happens in the original movie and I think it would be more appealing if I took a different approach. Thanks for the compliment, by the way!

Well yeah, you're right. I was just thinking that currently the scene you've got doesn't really allude to anything with glass... and thought maybe that was an easy fix. But honestly a fresh perspective on the scene context would be cool.

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

So now my plan for the scene is to have the window I've added behind my character without glass in it. Various bugs are going to be flying into the window, which will lead the female character to have the concerned attitude you can hear in the audio. For now, I've added lip sync and refined the body movements. Adding the second character will probably be my next step.

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

So I was reading through the pass post and then watched your animation. There are a few things that stand out to me, but the thing you should probably fix first is the twinning of the hands. Throughout the animation they where in sync. While the character is in his ideal pose, you should make it where the hands are swinging off-set of one anther. As well as 7 seconds in both arms go up, and the pose for the hands , fingers, elbow are all the same. I'd suggest moving them from being linear and putting them in different places, as-well as changing the pose of the fingers; so it looks more natural. The same thing happens 9 seconds in. It's still almost a perfect line from fingertip to fingertip.  I think once you fix those things the animation will look a lot better and you'll be able to get more of a performance out of your character. I hope my advice is able to be of help to you.

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

The upper body twist in the beginning of the video seems bit much.

So, I took the critiques I've gotten so far into consideration and I've made some adjustments. Also, I've included some elements to better communicate the story and I've added the animation to the second character.

Re: February 2017 Animation Progress

This is the final version of the animation. For this one I've just made a few minor changes since the last progress update.
