My video submitted successfully this August but is not appearing today

I am so disappointed, I spent the month working on this animation only to realise after the deadline, that files greater than 10mb will be rejected by the server. So, a month of effort gone, for overlooking that detail. If only there was a notification of some kind to alert me and give me the chance to change it. I couldn't do anything about it because it was a really last minute submission.

Hi Dom,

Sorry to hear it!  Post your animation here so we can see it!

Regarding everything else you said, I don't think a single person can do anything about it now.

Re: My video submitted successfully this August but is not appearing today

Hello DomJ
First of all I do not want to add insult to injury but if you read rules
before you tried to submit your LARGE clip (not after) your month work would
enter the August 2016 competition.
Your title post is also somehow wrong/confusing
"My video submitted successfully this August but is not appearing today"
If your file was over 10mb it should be rejected automatically not submitted successfully
as you had written here, so you knew right away it was NOT in.
I cannot tell from my experience how this works because my files are always
less than 2mb.
I can offer you 3 pieces of advice which work for me as I'm a procrastinator myself.
1.
When I work close to the deadline I always open 11secondclub.com page
& watch that "DIRTY" (lol) yellow line from time to time:
"XYZ time remaining in the Competition" to know how much time I have left.
2.
I always submit my unfinished clip ( even if it is only 96% finished) way ahead of
the deadline eg: 2 hrs. This way I know my entry is secured no matter what.
I can always enter another better finished clip over the 1st one later on.
Actually you could submit your WIP days ahead of deadline then over write it with
another WIP....ect. I can imagine this way you would NEVER miss the deadline.
I have never tried that as I'm a procrastinator.....lol
3.
My last that final entry is 15 min before the deadline in case something happens.
( internet is slow, internet is too busy ect)
Btw. I do not know if you noticed (if anybody noticed) that the organizers of
these competitions gave us 1 ONE hour extra to submit.
Actually the deadline is 1 am Eastern Time Zone (next day) not 12 am New York City as the rules say.
I hope
that helps you next time.
.
Like Dannykneip (always a nice chap keeping our poor souls spirit UP) says
you can show us your month work in WIP forum perhaps you even get some
commentaries. Better late than never get members reaction.
Btw. Not much you can do now about it Dannykneip is always right because
he is Upstanding Citizen after all.
cheers

DomJ I see you have 2nd the same topic.

You can do it.

Re: My video submitted successfully this August but is not appearing today

13mb file was accepted with a green tick confirmation, so I would say it is an easy error to make while trying to finish a first ever submission. Even if it says no in the TandCs. Perhaps a red tick would be logical if it is being rejected automatically; but that is not a note to you, it's a note to the admin. Not receiving any confirmation prompted me to ask someone who has entered before, who told me I should receive a confirmation email. I should have checked that earlier too. Newby mistake, thankfully experts such as yourself Acolors, to put me right!

I wrote here hoping that my submission might be salvaged. That being impossible, as per Dannykneip, at least I benefit from your extensive advice.. Quite a long statement to remind me about a mistake I admitted to. Nevertheless, I really appreciate all the time it took to write it! I am not sure if you wrote that more as a personal memo, but I have taken on board what you have said about file size, and I have deleted the duplicate post so you are not irritated to see it.

No matter, the month is already ancient history in my mind now. Good luck with your animation career, and remember - keep it fun as per your tag line.

Re: My video submitted successfully this August but is not appearing today

Hey DomJ
I've just shared how I do things as I said I'd been a procrastinator.
Thought that might help.
When I put some work/time in my animation I'd like to make sure
it was submitted successfully. I gather so did you.
That's all.
As large files go you are right they should be rejected or red colourd from the start,
not let 13mb in without any warning.
Like I said before I had no experience there
Btw,
I'm not irritated by your duplicate post......just try to keep things in order.
Sooner or later someone from this site would deleted it, it might be you, right?
Seems to me you were rather irritated & in a hurry to save your month work
which was understandable & not getting any action/reply from the administration.
I guess that's why duplicate posts.
No animation career here (but thanks for wishes) I just do competitions for fun .......no pressure !!!
cheers.
Ps.
I hope you do not give up so easily & we have a chance to judge your masterpiece in future
competitions, if you do not show us that 13mb clip of yours now.
