Jpeg upload problem

When uploading my entry the website has a 'tick' or 'cross' system to say whether or the piece fits the requirements. I have never had an issue with uploading the video because I know the requirements well and can easily adjust accordingly. The picture of the video however is another matter. I know that you can upload as a JPEG which I always do but even when it should fit the requirements and I upload the picture I get a red cross saying 'No it doesn't'. I know it's the right type of image, it's not a huge file and it should work, but the site says no. I have until very recently used Photoshop to alter the picture's file name to get around this because just copy pasting the image in it's folder and altering the name never works. I still get the red cross, but the Photoshop way ALWAYS works.
I have a new computer, a PC, and would love to get some new Adobe software but the prices are rather too steep for my liking.

Is there any other way to get the image to work without Photoshop? Are there any cheaper software options similar to Photoshop that aren't utter rubbish? I need advice soon because otherwise I can't enter into this month's competition. Thank you!

Re: Jpeg upload problem

GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop, although I think the learning curve is rather steep.  I don't use it myself.

You could always pick up the free version of Photoshop CS2.  The links and serial numbers are still posted online.

I hope this helps!

Re: Jpeg upload problem

Free version did not work on my windows 10. It keeps wanting to repair the software after it seems to install. No icon pops up on desktop to open photoshop and begin work.

Is there a step by step guide on how to properly install it?

Re: Jpeg upload problem

Hello Lozzer86,
Before you buy or install any program on your PC try this:
upload your picture this way
Your Picture.jpg
-----------------
NO this way
Your Picture. JPG
.
this ought to solve your problem it had to be .jpg .......no JPG
I had that problem once & as yours my picture did fit the requirements.
I've Photoshop 4 (16 bits & it only works on my WinXP pro)
& 5.5 as well CS3 & bunch of editing photo programs.
I put that picture through all those programs & sve in each of them.
NOTHING !!!!
It was 10 mins to deadline & I could NOT upload that bloody picture of mine.
I even tried "Paint" which comes with PC. no luck.
So finally I did change .JPG to .jpg & decided to try
& and viola it worked !!!!  It is a silly thing.
I addressed that before when somebody couldn't upload a picture here:
.

Try it .... hope it works for you.
Now,
I use avs4you for editing my video because I did not want to pay big bucks
for upgrades my Adobe Premiere 5.1 every year or so.
.
AVS4YOU Software  is US$ 60.00 & unlimited upgrades for your life.
It has 11 different editing programs..............including photo editing.
AVS Photo Editor
AVS Image Converter..........& more.
It is not Photoshop but it does NOT cost like Photoshop.
Believe it or not I like (for my needs) Photoshop 4.0
.
Check it out AVS4YOU here.
http://www.avs4you.com/index.aspx
I have 2 AVS4YOU  one for my PC ......one for laptop
& I bought another for my tablet window surface 3 pro with Win 8
I haven't install it yet. It should work on Win 10 as well.
hope this helps
cheers

Re: Jpeg upload problem

Hi Lozzer,

Check out this adobe forum.  Maybe the answer is there?  https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q= … indows+10*

I have not upgraded to W10 yet, mostly out of fright.

Krita is another good, open source software which may help.  And the latest release - Krita 3.0 - has added animation support!  https://krita.org/item/krita-3-0-released/

GIMP is the other alternative.

Good luck!

Re: Jpeg upload problem

Yeah don't bother with Windows 10 because it turns your computer into nothing but apps and poorly designed features. I wish I could go back to Windows 7. That was FAR better!
