Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Thanks JKR, more progress to come, Whats up KennyRoy, I know exactly what you mean, my plan was to save that as a polish phase addition once I was happy with the timing of all of her acting beats, so it would be the "dirt" or the "noise" of the shot.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Thanks PIPS!, Kyle G, yea admittingly lipsync has always been my krytonite, but I plan on nailing it on this one, for now the lips mainly just have the jaw movement timed-ed in roughly.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Hummmm I have to say I like it best before the cut. Personally I think the second time she says "maybe" is perhaps the most emotional moment of the audio. She sounds close to tears at that point. I think it would be a shame to cut away at that moment and miss the opportunity for some really emotional acting. I also really like the composition of the shot before the cut. I would be tempted to stick with it the whole way through. Just my personal preference though. Overall it's looking very well done so far. The lipsync might be a few frames early in places though so you might have to tighten that up.

what a great idea for the background noise! smile really love this.
the lipsync for "isn't coming" should be a few frames earlier, i think.

I think you did over do on lips and jaw. They looks too fleshy.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Hey Wellings! I totally get why you would like that intimate close up shot for this, but my story is of a woman, Jane, living in a zombie filled world, you know the deal death zombies horrific images and things, nothing new, lol She is an alcoholic, and is basically trying to decide whether or not she should have this drink or not, which is why I choose to go from a intimate close up to a wide shot so we can see her struggle on should I drink or no, but maybe I can frame it so that we still see that but stay in closer on the cut, I will experiment.

Thanks A_ Yea I knew instantly what I wanted to do when I heard the noise, yes the audio was not clean but I think that made it more fun, to think of a way to make it work.

Bhavesh_suthar, thanks  man, I may tone down the jaw and lips once I do a real polish pass on them, I think its easier to go really big with controls and then scale them down as needed.

More updates soon!

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

On my lunch break I went home to try a new camera angle, to try and still sell my idea but keep the shot composition intimate to support the dialogue.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

I much prefer this camera angle, I think it works well.
I meant to say that the lip sync is late, not early, sorry.
Also, if you remove "s" from https it will embed the video directly into this thread.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

i think if you bring the middle of the brows up to show more worry, also widening the eyes like the brows are pulling them up, it would help me connect with the character through the eyes. also, some more smile mouth shapes for words like "really" would help the lipsync. the shot, timing, and props are fantastic.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Thanks for all the great feedback and comments, as I said before lip sync is my darn krytonite so hopefully this time I will nail it or get better, right  now its just first pass stuff, so I can rough in some expressions, I think the cam angle works better too wellings, you don't wanna cut wide away on such an intimate moment, and thanks for the embedding info, I was wondering why it wasn't showing up in the thread. Taibo, thanks dude I will give that a try with the brows, for her, she needs to show worry and that craving for the bottle, as well as all the horrible things shes seen and experienced so I might have to draw some ideas down to see when and where I can get that in. Thank again!

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

So here is the full shot, not complete of course I sorta jump around a lot on certain areas when I work, not the best workflow but I am working on that, the dude is not fully blocked in at all, most of the woman (jane) is blocked in some areas blocking plus, I still want to add a beat at the end where she almost takes a sip and brings the whiskey up to her lips, only to pull it away and say her last line, "have'not I?" I feel like that will really help sell the conflict she has on whether she really wants to drink again. Atleast I hope I pull that off. I like when she snatches the whiskey but think I may give her a few more frames to try and soften the move just a tad. And of course just really go in and make sure poses ease in and out where they should and check for arcs on all of the moves, black dude (Rodney) will be mostly static except maybe on the frames where she snatches the whiskey. And once I get things going to a place I like, I plan on adding a layer to try and massage in some areas of "dirt" where the bodies react to the truck moving, nothing to drastic, I will have to do some trial and error to see what works and what won't on that. For now, I sleep.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Hello Don,
i think you miss the dialogue intensity.
The girl grab the bottle, it looks like she is angry...
my suggestion is that just hear dialogue over and over so you can feel the pace and intensity of the dialogue.

otherwise all done nicely...

love this entry so far.

Re: Alcoholic in a zombie world

Hey bhavesh_suthar, I was going for anger only because, in my head she is frustrated, she has seen horrific things, people dying, friends dying, zombies everywhere, and it has broken her to the point where she has found herself wanting to take a drink after being sober for ten years, so in my head I felt that with this sadness of whats going on around her, she is also very angry that she has found herself in this predicament, the anger roots from her known hatred of drinking and what it has done to her, so when she snatches it I had her do it in a angry matter because she is just that. I was hoping that was what I was selling, but maybe I can pull back a little on it, still lots to do! Thanks again everyone for all the crits, feedback and comments, its always helpful, so I can get better!
