Acting Class - Aug WIP
So i decided to attempt this months clip
I would of entered last month but my mind was blank with ideas. It is my first attempt at the competition so could do with any critique or advice to help my idea.
I have started blocking out my key poses. The story is of a teacher who is addressing his acting class. I tried to keep it simple as possible. I was going to add a second character but i don't think it will need it unless anyone has any better suggestions? Also the end i have 3 ideas which I don't know what to use yet as they don't seem appealing enough. So I am gonna work on a new ending as soon as and get some key poses created. Any feedback or suggestions are more than welcome
cheers

Good idea. Go in close as soon as possible. This one is all about subtle acting. One thing that will need to be clear is whether or not this is a good acting instructor or a ham. Can work either way, but it should be clear. His gestures here are rather dramatic for the line, which would lean towards hamminess.

Thanks for the feedback. He is a weird one who thinks hes better than he is. I have tried to get that across in the end part hopefully. I have tried multiple endings but think this one sums the character up well. I am still experimenting with a camera cut but nothing seems natural so far
Anyway here is some more key poses. Any feedback is more than welcome ![]()

I know this is kind of random and not about animation, but I think you should give him a mustache. The way he's acting just screams "mustachioed" to me. ![]()

I have been trying to add inbetweens this afternoon to see what i could come up with. I also zoomed the camera in instead of a cut. I am still in stepped mode and there are still some parts that need pushing and tweaking before i go into linear/spline. Any suggestions/feedback on improving anything would be great ![]()

I think you could find a more creative way to say animation teacher! Dive deeper into the characer. Act it out. Act it out again.

Re: Acting Class - Aug WIP
I'm loving your progress so far. I think it would be really funny if the teacher skips over the 101 and just underlies "Acting" even blocking 101 partially with his body, hinting to the viewers that he thinks of himself as greater than a basic level actor. Subliminals baby! Maybe even when he say "I own" have him extend up like if he's soars up. Gives a sense of dominance before gliding into this dark mode where he says stage. The pulling in extreme seems to drawn in for such a self absorbed persona unless he's hunched over and really really grabbing the air saying "I own". Just some Ideas. Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback dudes, They are great suggestions, I plan on making some new video reference so I can really push leading upto the ending and maybe change that as well if I can find something stronger.

Haaaa, this is hilarious! Great idea for the shot. I really like how you can exaggerate the acting and make it reeeallly over the top with this shot. It's gonna be a great one!

Thanks for the comments and kind words. I have been fighting with lots of different ways to get to the end pose, but I am happy with how it is going on this version. So i started added some more poses to flesh it out before I go to spline and start adding more details.
Any comments or feedback are more than welcome ![]()

Re: Acting Class - Aug WIP
At the moment I don't really like the look of the last pose but thats probably just me. What looks really great is the weight shift with his legs crossed! Really great way to display technical skill. Did you ever think of him falling over at the end?
"What then is truth? A movable host of metaphors, metonymies, and anthropomorphisms: in short, a sum of human relations which have been poetically and rhetorically intensified, transferred, and embellished, and which, after long usage, seem to a people to be fixed, canonical, and binding."
