Hey, love your take on the audio.. good start as well.
Some advice:
I think maybe you can make him do some quick glances to the finish line, like checking if anyone's gotten ahead of the race, while looking in his toolbox.
That way the audience will feel his "concerns" at the moment.
About the glasses, can you maybe replace it with something else?
Maybe a wheel? lol, now how did it fit in there but it could open a possibility for a gag right?
Besides, I think the audience will have a hard time digesting what the glasses are for.
Go for a tool that will obviously help him fix his bike.
And make the damage on his bike more obvious, make it look like it just happened recently.
And the girl, is she part of the crowd watching?

idea with looking back on some other cyclist is good...
i actually want to add much more Key poses than on this short animatic, and this looking back maybe one of them..
generally   he will be in a hurry...
