Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

Just wanted to do someone picking something up, spent about 5 hrs on it. Feel free to leave comments, or not. Also feel free to post up your own picking up object vid.

Thanks! Kinda strange with the smaller head big_smile
But for the sake of giving some critique, i feel that the arc on the cube (not the hand!) could be a wee bit straightened out at frame 38-39... Other than that, looks great!

Re: Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

Hey man, thanks for the crit.
I'm afraid I don't understand your comment about the box. sorry. The box is linked to the hand, so wouldn't It make sense to move the hand?

I must admit I don't like the hand coming in then out. I should have kept it at a nice arc upward

Re: Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

Its nicely done for 5hrs work, but my issue with the piece is the choice of poses, particularly on frame 35? Why would you lean in this close to lift up a box that you are trying to pick up swiftly. He takes this big anticipation, then the choice of poice is to handle the box with care.... seems like two opposing ideas.

Also, why don't you have a go at the christmas challenge? It could help provide an incentive/purpose for your choice of action?

Lastly, I'm not sure about different challenges happening in this section at the same time. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have always said that we welcome new ideas, but sounds like I'm being replaced. Hopefully I haven't done that bad a job so far sad

If you wish to put a object interaction challenge into place, please email me at shawthorne22@hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk. We did something similar a couple of months ago, which you can check out the brief here and we hope to visit it soon. If you have an idea of how to make it differently, please let me know your thoughts.

Re: Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

First off, I'm really sorry, I didn't and don't want to replace you. I looked through the forum and couldn't see a object interaction challenge. Now looking back through, I see it, and if I saw it at the time, I would have posted in there. My apologies.

As far as the Christmas challenge, I will have a go, but I'm quite busy with other things at the moment, up until Tuesday. I just wanted to do something quick while I had a bit of downtime.

As for your points on poses and motives beind the actions, I see what you mean. Its obviously a sign of bad planning on my end. It was 12am when I started it. So I did kinda jumped straight into it.

Thanks for the incite, it'll help a lot for next time. Cheers.

Yes sorry that's what you have to do of course, I just meant to watch the arc of the box, not the arc of the hand (which might look slightly different due to the rotations of the hand), but your pic illustrates quite exactly what I meant big_smile

Re: Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

agreed that f35 pose doesnt really seem to work for me either, I don't like the transitions that the body makes, also make sure that you overlap the fingers, when hes grabbing the box.

on f35 keep them as they were on f34, then close them one by one, frame by frame so it creates a nicer feeling to it

also agreed on the arm should be moving along smoother curve, such as you demonstrated on the picture.

Im going to be the most EPIC animator you have ever heard of

Here's an update. It seems a bit floaty at the moment. Do other people think this. I already have the fast motion on ones.

Re: Small personal 24hr challenge for myself

hey nice one Ohjin, i believe you need to hold a bit the surprising pose at frame 22, and coming to it a little faster!
By the way what is the current mini challenge, i thougth it was kicking a ball but i saw after doing one that it was an old one...

Like Steve said, we always stick the current MC to the top. But that doesn't prevent you from doing an old one, if you feel more comfortable with that.
