Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

@MasterVertex

liked the sticky ball idea ... smile

since you have given the sticky ball quite a squashable type of feeling ... so i think when at the end of story when it is getting lightly press between ball and wall, sticky ball should squashed further

the contact of the ball to the surface is not visible thoughtout the scene ... i guess playblasting the shot with some other BG color other than black will fix the issue

@blackbird256

bounce looking good to me but i feel u should delay your bounce timing a bit ... right now things moving quite fast

good going ... smile

did the rotation part ...

added stretch n squash ... since animated it keeping plastic ping pong ball in mind so didnt exaggerate S & S very much

lemme know ... areas where more improvement can be acheived

thanks @cosmicfool ... your tutorial on 11SC blog was a gr8 guide ... smile

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Hey, Pappu, thanks for taking the time to give some C&C. I slowed down the bounce and did some simple lighting and render. I hope it's a little slower coz i kinda just added a frame t the last few bounces.

Direct Link

Btw, yours is looking pretty good. Only critic I would make is that forward progression seems a bit too slow and uniform. Maybe it's coz i like speed but i was thinking it should be a bit fast after the first high drop and lose speed as it goes along. As of now, it seems to move at the same speed while going forward. The bounces look good though.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Well, i just started to animate a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, I tried to do some bouncing ball stuff. This is the result. Sorry for the length, but it was too much for me to let them start all together and animate all the interactions.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Hah, it's better than mine tongue

Blackbird: The heavy ball; When it falls off the ledge, it seems it doesn't slow down at all after hitting the floor. Not sure if that's the problem, but something just doesn't seem right XD.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

@blackbird256

thanks for critique mate smile ... will check the speed thing

well on the blog ... this img was posted for TRANSLATE X (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wIgbC2PPGnE/T … TransX.jpg) ... so uniformity factor looks justified for time being ...

heavy ball :

after hitting the floor theres only one bounce, i think you shuld add one more with much smaller height ...

check out frame 30 .... there is a penetration

light ball :

looking good now

some issue with contact from frame 1 to 4 ... keep graph linear, it will fix the issue

check out spacing and arc between frame 51-56

u need to bounce it after frame 58 ... more 2-3 low height  bounce

your forward progression and ease after hitting wall on frame 67 ... looking quite fast

@TheAnimatroid

your playblast file size is quite huge ... 125 mb

well my net speed is quite slow n your file taking lot of time to load ...

have 3-4 bounces till now ... your timing looks good ... but strengthen the weight a bit more

good goin smile

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Thanks Mango. I tried to slow the ball down.
Pappu, thanks for so many points. I've (literally) tried to work on all those points. Good call on the penetration.. Can't believe I was actually trying to get away with that.
Now, about the pic on the blog. It looks uniform to me too. Guess you're right about the x trail. I hope it works out perfectly. I hope the weekend was great for everyone. Good luck.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

@blackbird256

lower that height bit more ...

after F36 ball, next frame doesnt show ball anymore ... this giving sense of  DISAPPEAR rather than FALLING DOWN

no need to show the entire shape of ball on F37 ... a half or little glimpse will be okay

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

I tried to take some time to do another bouncing ball.. it's  more like a cartoony style, it took about 2 hours of work, including the modelling of the props and the animation.. what you guys think ? any critique ?

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Thanks Pappu, I hope it's better now.
I've also decided to save the rendering for another challenge as this seems to work faster if I just PB it like everyone else.

Direct Link

As for esquilogp...
Maaaaaan, that is FULLY awesome!! (Question to you., as an animator, have u used how to cheat in maya? {the book} I've heard it has some great tricks. Some of which I think I see in your work. Just asking if i could learn some from the book since i ordered it last week. That's if you've used it is all.)

Big boss,
your colurful ball seems to sell its weight pretty well. As for the heavy one, maybe you shouldn't stop it so abruptly, man.  It comes to a bit of a hard stop and that really stands out to the eye.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

@pappu Thaank you bro !

@Thaaaank you blackbird256 ! About the book, it seems to be good but i didn't read it...
indirectly i really use  many cheats that i figure out by myself or learned with the workflow of
great animators that try to share their experience..

Everything begins with good planning.. so you don't have to rely on happy accidents when you are
animating, you have to know what you want..

About workflow i compiled several sources here to you, maybe it's gonna help you make things faster :

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

the ball at peak height ... should be at the half way between the two extremes (ball touching ground)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24064331/11sc/corrections/bb-01.jpg

same case here about peak height ... also arc need to be refined more

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24064331/11sc/corrections/bb-02.jpg

take a more closer look at your graph ... tweaking graph well will solve the issue

Hi, it's nice to start the challenges here smile Going to try to enter more often now that I have more free time.

Here is my WIP entry - will be adding in some rotation after. Any suggestions?   Also might try a squash and stretch ball next.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall

Thanks so much for those links, esquilogp. Oh man, I bet there's som e cool stuff over there. Can't wait to check them out. Once again, thank u so much.

Klaw,
I love the spinning triangles thing. and the bounces are already good. Really cool!!
I think that red ball should pick up a bit of speed as it descends the slope.
I think its fall is much too unform for that slope and the weight you want to sell.

Avijit,
that looks really good. The 2 balls look so appealing, even without shaders. (which is not so easy to do, trust me)
It's actually hard to pick much that's wrong with this piece. However, the bowling ball, like everyone has said, could be a bit heavier.
The beach ball looks to be okay but if you look really close, especially on many of the parts where
it's supposed to touch the wall, it doesn't exactly come into contact with it. Most noticably, on the final
contact with the wall, it bounces off the wall without touching it at all.
