Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
Its time to go back to basics, and bounce some balls. This time around were going to roll a ball off a high ledge, bounce it off a wall, and have it come to a settle. The idea of this assignment is to help polish some of your fundamentals.
The energy picks up as the ball rolls off the ledge, it further picks up as it falls from the ledge to the floor. Its energy slowly is lost as it moves forward, the energy then bounces off the wall and continues to travel until it is all gone. And of course the energy of each bounce slowly is lost as well.
This example took Cosmicfool about 10 minutes to animate (mind, he has lots of experience and has produced many, many bouncing balls in the past).
We are thinking, since it is such a simple assignment, why not challenge yourself! To confirm the rules, the ball must roll a high ledge, bounce off a wall, and have come to a settle. However you could do a few different balls. Heavy balls, light balls, bowling balls, ping pongs, basketballs, tennis balls etc. Take it a step further, add some subtle squash and stretch. Add some rotations. Experiment with the layout. Most importantly learn from this exercise!

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
Thanks guys. Have i ever done too many balls, and an equal amount of failed balls.
Looking forward to seeing what people do with the challenge.
Edit - whats with every convo ive opened today having the worst spam ever? Seriously. Get a life. YEs im aware of the irony in an animator saying that.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
The ball bounce is really cool. I will point out that the rules this time are a tad too specific but am participating anyway. And I agree with cosmicfool, the spam is super annoying.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
Its tad specific the rules. I don't see anything wrongwith bouncing it off a wall in any manner you decide. The idea is bunce it off a wall, have it stop. Imsure anything with those two things will be accepted.

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
rules are there for a reason this time, if that ball doesn't bounce right, there is no place to hide. Here is another example of what could be produced
...and another
but one ball is absolutely fine too

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
Well, here's my result. You might have seen my thread in the Animation Discussion section, saying how I'm new to the forums, and wanted some tips yadda yadda. Well, Iest suggested that I came and did these mini exercises; so that's what I did
I know that the roll could be better, but it's my first decent animation without following any tutorial, so gimme some slack! (Made using blender 2.59).

Hey, Mango. I can't play your animation for some reason, but if you are not happy with it, don't make it your final result. Push your ball until it is correct. That's the aim of practicing principles. Most animation stems from the bouncing ball, so it is important to get right before moving on to more complex stuff.
At Anuj Garg and Kai, some great balls there. Great experiment with different weights.
@kai, good luck with the september competition!

New version:
If I shouldn't have put it in a new post, and I was supposed to edit my old one, just let me know

I still can't get the dimensions right! Any ideas why? What dimensions is it supposed to be?

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
hey mango, similar to the 11 Second Club monthly competition, the submissions are all required to be 560 pixels in width by 316 pixels in height. You may find some other things that may help here http://blog.11secondclub.com/2011/06/mi … ipate.html
also for some reason I cant currently read yours or kiopaa's files. I am not sure why the problem is happening. Not sure if anyone else knows

Re: Mc 17: Bouncing a ball off a wall
@Sandyanimator... I loved your (big ass) light ball! But I think the first, the heavy one, is kinda stiffy, I think you should let it roll more, even if it is a little bit. Another thing, the red ball accelerates for itself when it bounces against light one. If yo could upload the video on quicktime or dropbox it could be easier to critique your entries, keep going!
Eu gosto de feijão.
