MC 14: The Diving Board!

Hey all you animators out there!

Yesterday on the 11 Second Club Blog (did you know it existed? I only recently found out) the latest of the Mini Challenges went live! I imagine it would probably be posted here eventually, but I thought I'd take the initiative and help out by sharing the link ASAP! After all, I know we all want to get started and make it awesome.

The Diving Board Challenge! -click here-

"If you have any questions about submission requirements, please check How-to-Participate section for more details.

This two week animation challenge (ending on 29th August) should be around 100-125f with a 16:9 ratio. Choice of rig is up to you guys, whether you wish to use a ball with tail or a full biped."

Be sure to stop by the blog for examples and an already-made scene to use so you 3D folks can dive right into animating! (Ha ha, DIVE in? See? I... Oh nevermind.) I myself will be tackling the challenge in 2D, so whichever animation method you decide on just make sure you participate! After all, practice is exactly how you become a master!

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

I did some quick thumbnails and such while watching the baseball game last night, so I figured why not share!

(Ignore the random baseball bouncing on the left there. Clearly I had other things on my mind while I was sketching. tongue )

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

Well, poop. I stupidly spent hours animating this at the wrong aspect ratio. lol But I had a lot of fun and regret nothing. I know it won't end up in the end composition with the rest of the entries, but I'll still post it here anyway for some much-welcome critiques. Right now the character is on twos, and i'm not sure whether or not it would benefit from ones. What say you?

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

Hey C-Nielson, it does look better if everyone uses the same format, however I enjoy seeing the range of work. So it will be posted and I look forward to doing so, it just takes me longer.

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

I guess best would be if you just upload it as a quicktime to your dropbox account and post the link in the forum, then it should appear in your post...

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

Everyone's pieces are really looking great so far! I'm exciting to see that we'll have a bunch of entries this time around. I have timing mine on my to-do list for today, so I don't fall behind.

One thing I noticed, Stacie, is that your character hangs in midair maybe a fraction too long. The rest looks terrific, just when she's moving away from the board and rotating to go into the dive it's a touch floaty. I bet if you took out just a few frames in that motion it would smooth it out nicely! Or maybe the fall just needs to be a little faster, I'm not sure. Good job with it, though, it works really well overall!

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

thelittlepenguin84..do you mean to arc it in the Final jump ( The dive)..But I was think that when we jump with our Head leading our body would drag..so If I create a arc for the Boy..I would not get a drag out of it..What do you suggest...??

Good news, Ajnabee! You don't need a link to the spot to post the final version because you're there right now! smile

Just post a link to your final movie right here in this thread, and the honorable little penguin will be sure it finds a spot in the final compilation at the deadline. Easy breezy!

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

Hi! Katana, I agree with the camera. Its difficult to include all the motions... Even the reference camera track along then zoom out as they jump and dive =/. Maybe put a closer camera then zoom out... Guess I will try out some cameras.. Thanks!!  The rig is Big fat strong Download from creative crash. smile

Re: MC 14: The Diving Board!

Ha! That gave me a good giggle. Watch the arcs on the right (screen left) arm, especially the elbow. And try to offset the arms a tad so they're not twinned. Otherwise it looks great smile
