Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

Sweet 2 people in the group already!
I think this concept for running it will work awesome.
I discovered you can set a "facebook group event" up that has its own forum thread for discussion on it. So every week or biweekly when a new challenge starts all videos and chat can be posted in that event thread, which I think is pretty cool. I like Matts date for the 28th for the first challenge. I posted a challenge event for the 20th just to test it as a beta of sort to see if it would work smoothly, its a mini obstacle course for a ball. So everyone who wants to practise some basics should get over to that site and get prepared to do a test/beta run of the mini challenges!
If this idea sucks and doesn't work, at least the ball has started rolling.....

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

6 people have joined now. Looks like there will be a good turnout for the challenges in this format....
I set up a dropbox folder for people to grab the scene files if they wish for the challenge, and if people so desire some further crits, they can upload there scene file into that weeks challenge folder. They just need to fire me the email and I can add them to the folder.
I did a test, and videos upload really nicely into the events folder for that week. The viewer isn't qt but i'm sure we can work something out better for that.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

Let's create a Skype chatroom for brainstorming, critiques and workflow techniques.
So we can share things on the go before we post it on the forums.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

As far as I can tell there is no group in skypeland, but you can create a group of contacts on your end and then when you go to connect it will connect everyone ( that is on of course ).

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

Were now up to 22 members, and have started out week 1 challenge which is a ball going through an obstacle course.
We have decided to make each month a different theme, and have each mini challenge leading up to a more intense mini challenge. This month is going to be leading up to a small scene with a ball and a lamp, like the pixar short luxo jr. So the next challenge will be using the lamp rig. The next challenge will be showing emotion with it. The next will be interacting with the lamp and ball. Look forward to seeing everyone who wants to participate in the group.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

I think it would be cool if the scene file is there with camera angle, props etc included, except the rig of course we get to choose cause im sure everyone has one their more comfortable with.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

some douche deleted it. I guess making everyone an admin and setting up a self running system based on honor was expecting too much from certain people. Guess we need to go to an all powerful supreme overlord system where only 2 or 3 people are in charge and in control of everything. Kinda sad as all the posts and all the posted works and links are completely lost. Its still there(in a new rebuilt format, many thanks little penguin) try searching 11sc mini challenges. You should be able to find it. I'd love to send out a huge lick me to the douche that deleted it somehow. Hopefully all the people who were active on it before will find the new site. As were missing about 50 members that were previously on it still on the new site.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

I've been wondering that too. I was a member of the fb group, and the interaction and feedback between animators was great (like it is here), but the system seemed all too complicated. I like the idea of doing the challenges here.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

yes the challenges have tried to be run from facebook, just giving the main site some breathing space. Been very difficult and complicated, but I'm still passionate as ever that this could work.

The next challenge is a walk cycle one. would love people to enter, got certain criteria etc.

But I'm desperately trying to get more people behind the challenges and blog. Failing and sometimes winning, but loving the battle. Created a blog, with over 30 resources posted for april alone. Its had over 1000 hits in april, though a lot of these could be the same people.

But I'd love people to get behind it and help out. Share their thoughts, ideas for how to make this blog and challenges beneficial to everyone. I've added several writers so far, but I seem to be the only one writing on it. I often have too many things to say lol, so would love few others to talk over me, whether its agree or disagree, share their passions and light the way for others.

If you wanna move it back here, move it. We do need several figures as admin, and I would like to volunteer to be one of them.

Re: Resurrecting the old mini-challenges

p.s. there have also been some benefits of having it on facebook. I have met and conversed with some wonderful people around the world. and having a separate facebook group from the main one, again gives the main competition some breathign space so the two lots of material do not cross over.

Definately needs organisation, admin, different thoughts, ideas etc. People who can commit to make sure the challenges survive, researching the next exciting challenge, possibly talking behind the scenes etc.
